Gone With the Winds - 24 September 2008

Early in the morning, I sez: Off on vacation for a bit, so SNS will be silent over that timeframe.

Not to say we leave you with nothing, but you’ll want to check out The Cabal, which has a rotating list of posts - once the bottom one drops off, you’ll have to go re-find it in the archives of the actual blog, but all the blogs on that roll are worth a read. And then there’s [livejournal.com profile] quicknews, which covers the conservative point of view pretty well, mixing in liberals when they’re either mentioned or doing something in the news. For other stuff, I usually rely on my blogroll here on LJ to generate the other side of the story, including an Indian CEO bludgeoned to death by the workers he fired, Senator McCain asking for debates and campaigning to be delayed until after the financial crisis resolves, for which Senator Obama says the President is going to have to learn to juggle many things at once, and Naomi Wolf's certainty that Sarah Palin is the Bush-Cheney-Rove voice for the upcoming election, not McCain, and that Palin will continue the same tactics started by those three if elected, including things like arresting protesters, harassing and surveilling and forcing journalists to be unable to do their jobs, as well as infiltrating groups, using agents to pose as protesters, who then get camera time as "the out of control protesters", and such.

After all, they can cover things like why you shouldn't brag about having a standing house after a hurricane - even if you’re broke, people will feel resentment to you for having (And especially for stockpiling) the government aid given to all the hurricane-affected.

And the slacktivist, if he should post lots, because he understands that three pages for 700 billion dollars just ain't gonna cut it.. Jesus’s General is also worth a look, if for no other reason than proposing a plan to offer a toaster to those CEOs that accept Treasury bailout with actual strings attached. I Drew This is unabashedly liberal, asking why certain conservatives blame minorities for the current credit crunch, well, them and the government that forced all those banks to loan to minorities, who were all obviously poor credit risks, feeling vindicated by the large amount of defaulting going on.

There’s Pink Tentacle, which chronicles all sorts of oddities in Japan, including a robot that can ride a unicycle. And The Happiness Project, offering tips to keep yourself happy at work.
