Over the summer, the idea of an "ice bucket challenge" to raise money for ALS research went viral - film yourself getting a bucket of ice water dumped on your head, call out five friends to do the same, and name a donation to ALS research. A lot of very famous people took part, as well as a staggering number of regular people. I haven't seen a total amount of money raised, but I suspect it was substantial.
