It worked decently well. The weakest link was my ability to be at rendezvous points in a timely manner, as I really didn't want to be found missing from the expected areas. As I recall, that happened once - as yours, an instance of careless practice.
Digital information is a lot easier to sacrifice, yeah. I got good at memorizing URLs; that skill helps me out to this very day. It also helps when the relevant adults aren't as good at computers as they think they are, because I'm pretty sure I left tracks I didn't even know I'd left, but to my knowledge they weren't found.
