The purity campaigns are real head-scratchers for me. I totally understand "we'd like space of our own according to our rules, please stay away unless you're willing to follow them," because that makes sense. "You have to hide your content away from us because we don't want to see it wherever we go" is going to be rejected, because I heard that too many times from other people who wanted to make the world safe for themselves and children by requiring everyone to play by their prejudices over what others could be out about.
I'm not surprised that there's pushback about too much queer content when there's any at all. There's a statistic reported around that men perceive there to be many more women in a space than there actually are, and the more women the men think are there, the more defensive and less comfortable they are.
