Oo. Tuesday.

Today was most interesting - I think I got both papers done, sort of - one's done, the other, I'm going to see if my prof actually will read drafts or not tomorrow. (Well, later today).

A few things also came back to me - the info on the class that I requested, a call back from a place that filled the spot I was applying for, but had a different job (that won't make as much money - I'm hoping for the maximum wage and a good set of hours) that I said I'd interview for. So that's next Wednesday. Today at work I sorted screws and rolled letters. (No, that's not some sort of euphemism for something else) I also did a little reading - should do some watching tomorrow, if I get the time and inclination. Which are both looking like good choices.

There was, also, apparently, a vote by Kansas to ban gay marriages that passed 70%-30% sometime in the last week that I missed out on. Eeeediots. I can see why people might think that Canada is a better place to live than here, because right now we seem to be proud of the fact that we're regressing towards medieval society in terms of our freedoms and viewpoints. Wonder what the new pope is going to do. Perhaps someone will pie him rather than try to shoot him.

Also, apparently in the UK, they're having sex at a very young age. Another liberal thing, I guess.

And, because I want to, I'm closing this out with an interesting meme from [livejournal.com profile] loweko

Describe the ancient and occult rituals that are used to summon you

As a camp counselor, I had to break up an... er, encounter... between two 12 year olds in the woods.

Possibly the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had to do.

This age thing is very interesting. Walking through the city I always see lots of Lolitas... I guess they're just those who are more visible than the "normal" girls, but still it's pretty shocking to see them wear stuff that would be too revealing for my taste and lots of make-up.
Yet on the other hand children stay far longer with their parents, start getting a job later and there are lots of 20-something-girls who run around with anime characters on their bags and squeeing over Sailor Moon.

What a great society. I wonder how many people would vote to outlaw homosexuality, if it was offerred them.

Indeed. But remember, you aren't alone in that. The problem is spreading gradually.

I was talking about neoconservatism. You may have Bush, but other people have Burlosconi, Chirac, Putin. We're currently seeing politicians targeting Christians through making issues of abortion, while trying to pass laws for compulsary ID cards, etc. Its worrying how thingsn are going in general.

I believe so. There's more to it than one nation ruining it for everyone, of course. I get the impression that a backlash could change the direction of things here, but the two main parties are too stuck into right wing politics. I'm not sure how you get past that.

When left to their own devices, many states choose to keep slavery, keep segregation, and make interacial marriage a crime. This too shall pass.

Particularly when you notice that a whole bunch of people are begining to speak out against the fundies and their ilk. It's just not going to happen today, and it's gonna take a few fist fights. In many ways part of the problem is that the gutless lefties we've got these days aren't willing to do what's nessicary to get their message across. They used to be a lot more eloquent and a good deal more agressive about getting the message out there.

Shouldn't they be taking that argument out to the next level and deciding that judging someone based solely upon factors like race or orientation is useless?

Humans just have an us vs. them mentality. They want to protect the tribe and keep others from threatening the tribe. Watch a good current chimp documentary sometime, you'll begin to see the dark side of humanity in those fuzzy little bastards. This basicly explains war for our history. The problem these people are having is that it's getting tougher and tougher for them to seperate us from them. In many ways they've discovered that some of them are actually some of us and vice versa.

The small minded bigots think they're protecting the tribe (be it white people, straits, christians, whatever) when they act this way. Of course they're using arguments besides "Hey I'm just protecting my tribe" because that argument sounds stupid. The problem of course is that when they make other arguments they're lying and it's pretty easy to put a crowbar into the cracks and rip their argument open.

Basicly all these people are just half evolved chimps beating other chimps to death and eating them.
