Whoo! Things are good.

Just got my other internship approved today, so I'm set for the necessary amount of credits of practical engagement. My degree progression is again back on track, and hopefully the requirements to get it aren't that bad.

I get visited by [livejournal.com profile] annaonthemoon tomorrow, as she's taking her vacation in my area. We'll probably go shopping at some point to make sure that my cupboard meets her requirements. I don't think it'll be too much of a problem. She'll get to see my new, smaller, more compact living space.

Twins of different races born to same parents. Kind of weird, but it says something about the way that people have been mixing that such things can actually happen.

According to teens, being warm is cool. There's our rebuttal to Youth being the problem with our world today - youth are actually taking to heart that being nice/polite is a good. We like, we like.

A reminder from the Discordian catma: Mal-2 meets Cod. Always worth revisiting classics.

And one tiny last thing - just something I've felt should be said because of events in the recent past.

There's a story in your eyes
I can see the hurt behind your smile
For every sign I recognize
Another one escapes me

Let me know what plagues your mind
Let me be the one to know you best
Be the one to hold you up
When you feel like you re sinking

Tell me once again
What's beneath the pain you're feeling
Don't abandon me
Or think you can't be saved

I walk beside you
Wherever you are
Whatever it takes
No matter how far
Through all that may come
And all that may go
I walk beside you
I walk beside you

Summon up your ghosts for me
Rest your tired thoughts upon my hands
Step inside this sacred place
When all your dreams seem broken

Resonate inside this temple
Let me be the one who understands
Be the one to carry you
When you can walk no further

Tell me once again
What's below the surface bleeding
If you've lost your way,
I will take you there

I walk beside you
Wherever you are
Whatever it takes
No matter how far
Through all that may come
And all that may go
I walk beside you
I walk beside you

Where everything is wrong
Where hopelessness surrounds you
The sun will rise again
The tide you swim against
Will carry you back home
So don't give up
Don't give in

I walk beside you
Wherever you are
Whatever it takes
No matter how far
Through all that may come
And all that may go
I walk beside you
I walk beside you

Being nice is going to be the in thing now? I can handle that.

[identity profile] greyweirdo.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thinking about it though, it's logical. Cool has always been defined by the amount of people who are attracted to it. People are more likely to gravitate towards some one who is nice to them, particularly when the old idea of cool has been so totally... what's the word I want? Bought? Sold out? Perhaps it was killed by it's own ubiquity? Clearly I'm not finding the phrase I want.

Hollow! It's become hollow though it's ubiquity and in part by it's investiture by corporate culture.

Well you know how cranky I get when people just mindlessly bash the corporations, but I think in this sense they and the internet are to blame, though one might say they can take the credit.

Follow me on this a second...

Understanding we're talking about first world people here, so many people are on the internet now that what you look like isn't nearly as important as what you act like. Given that so much of the old idea of cool was just sitting back and looking the part, it can't work on line. In that sense, how you act towards people is going to decide how you are liked, and online a jerk is just a jerk. People won't put up with you being a jerk jsut because you're good looking or just because you've got a fancy car or the right clohtes because they can't see them.

Then you've got the corporations that have been desperatly trying to sell cool, and thus have turned the very idea of coolm into nothing more than a commercial for soda pop. Also, there are so many people out there you have been paid to "Be cool" on the internet. When you consider how many companies have paid shills to go on forums and push there product one way or another.

So yeah, since the only way to be cool is to act cool, you've got actually behave in a way that makes people say "That's cool"

And not a moment too soon. -=)

This is a pattern. I keep waking at 330AM. WTF?

The only problem with survey's that rate on an odd number is that you will always get skewed data, because you will get a LOT of people who will just circle down the middle, not being willing to pick one way or another.

Still though, glad to see that finally being an honest, good person makes one "cool" in the eyes of today's youth.

Also, I approve of the nice picture of Johnny Depp we got to look at while reading that article.

Re: Babies. That's so strange, and yet wonderful at the same time. In contrast to that article, I have a friend who got pregnant from an incredibly dark african american man, and with the exception of her daughter's hair being courser (sp?) the way an af-am person's is, her daughter has caucasian skin tones.

Nice lyrics.

M) People like that don't really exist. Words, thoughts, concepts, plotlines: people string them together to sell to people hungry for them, but they don't. really. exist. People don't care like that, don't think like that, don't act like that. The few strong never look aside, the medium have their own problems, and the weak can't do anything but wrap themselves in fantasy. None of it is real.
