Early morning post.

It was a wonderful weekend. Separate post coming on the concert on Saturday - all I'll say in this post is that this concert was like finding out your OTP is canon - very squee-worthy. More to come on that. What follows is the general-purpose link-filled extravaganza.

A few Memorial-Day appropriate articles - the first is an opinion about the right to burn your country's flag in protest, the second comes in a set, about how much Iraq is a dangerous place, where people get shot for wearing shorts. Tennis players, no less. Where the insurgents aren't killing needlessly, now it's confirmed, the military may be. So, where are all the outraged people?

Also, Congress seems to have gotten on their horses pretty quickly after one of their own has his office raided. Tell me what you think about this person's perspective on a potential Congressional double-standard: they'll move to protect their own, but not so much to protect the populace at large.

Visiting Chicago, when I do it, I should pack a bar of map soap to make sure that I can get around... well, or plan my route out in the confines of the shower.

I feel like I've posted this story before, but if so, it's probably worth repeating - suicidal feelings at university? You're in violation of the student behavior code, says George Washington University. Apparently, if the rigours of college make you feel unwell every now and then, then you need to leave rather than risk the college being liable for your reaction to your illness.

Although, if all of this is just noise to you, you can probably do a little DIY soundproofing and make it so that all I'm doing is moving my mouth, with no sound coming out.

Concert report in the morning, as it's too early to do that one justice in this state. Also, very humid, so sleep will be interesting tonight.

ohhh. so that's why the soundproofing article opened twice. I thought I had clicked it twice. oops.

OH, don't mention humidity to me. It's not even supposed to be that hot! Maybe you need to get a fan for your window?

DIY Soundproofing, eh? Well, I suppose it would work. It's not a bad idea. i think all College dorms should soundproof their rooms. Nothing like hearing "squeak, squeak, squeak" every night from the dorm room above!

In terms of colleges and suicical students, I can comopletely agree with the consent forms to notify the parents, but not the school. I understand that a student commiting suicide *is* bad for the students, especially the students who interacted with that student. When I was a Junior at State College, my best friend's roommate hung herself in their room (she wound up moving into my room). But the whole idea of releasing confidential information like that really rubs me the wrong way. Does this mean that if you seek out counseling at college for any reason it will get back to the administration? What business is it of the administration, esepcially if your grades aren't slipping? Of course, I also don't agree with the whole "academic probation" thing, becaus really, if you want to give your money to a school and be failing, that should be your own descision, but I digress. All these new revelations are going to do is get the suicidal students to NOT seek out help...and then what happens? More suicides on campus. The descision to seek out help is often a hard descision for students to make - a lot of them not wanting to admit they have a problem...and now, knowing that it might get them kicked out of school? Yeah, I bet a lot of kids will keep those feelings inside.

I like the soap. Is there one for AA?

I don't understand the bit about congress. It seemed the article was saying that ALL of congress goes against what the President is doing/saying, and if that's the case, shouldn't they be able to stop the President with that whole "Checks and balances" bit we learned about in Elementary school? Or did that suddenly go out the window too? The whole idea behind a search warrent is you have to have reasonable cause to search. It made sense that they searched Rep. Jefferson's office after he admitted to accepting $100,000....however, since they "secretly" taped him...are they really any better than the NSA? *Sigh* things in this country are getting so bad it seems. I'm not sure I want to think about it.
