Small bits here and there. Nothing significant.
There is the possibility of libel, though, if someone wants to say that a book is using names callously or maliciously, as Michael Crichton has made the baby-raping character have the same name as one of his critics. As I said, that could be a libel accusation, even with the “names are unintentional, really” disclaimer.
In the “Pictures are worth a thousand words” department, we have the executive of the country, and one of the soliders that he's been creating. Thanks to Exploding Aardvark for this gem of a photo - someone should probably find a better caption for it than I have.
In addition to reaching out to Muslims, at least in theory, it appears that the government is also waving citizenship as an incentive for millitary service. Because there’s nothing like a green card to get you motivated to kill other nations’ peoples.
And putting one and one next to each other, we have fat camps. Some designed to get fat kids thin, but that don't necessarily work if the parents aren’t also involved in things. On the other side, Mauritania's woman-fattening service, which force-feeds women to make them appear desirable and wealthy.
Useful data - Boingboing has a list of how to get around filtering and censorious software - in case you’re in a country that blocks things, or have a work that does it. Or you’re stuck in the public library that has to use censor software, and the librarian doesn’t feel like you should be unblocked. (If they are, though, put in a comment card. Access is very important, and the librarian should be more than willing to turn off the filter. If you then use it to look at pr0n, then you could get thrown out, too.)
And something that warms my heart - Ursula K. LeGuin says that fantasy and fairy tales are good for us to read, and to reread as an older audience - the stories we saw as having right and wrong suddenly get more complex when we get older. And some of the stories that we thought were for kids are exposed as just playing at it.
So that’s what you get tonight. I will think about bed, and then probably play a little too much Disgaea.

Even if it was based on the reviewer, there's nothing really that the guy can do, is there?
I wonder if any of those ways to get around filters would work for Dave's gf? Apparently the Korean Gov't blocks access to Skype because of it being "free telephone" or something like that. Hmm.
The article on fairy tales made me smile too. :)
ps - i've given up on the image for now. Maybe tomorrow I can figure out how to make it go.
