Long night.

Officiating ran long - two teams were playing all offense and no defense. No pitching, either. The last game of the night, both sides got chippy at me about the strike zone and such. I might have been calling it a little high and wide, and maybe a little inconsistent, but really, people, the last game ran long. If you can hit it, there's a good chance it'll be a strike. Today was a bit long on the other work side, too. Managed to fight off falling asleep in the staff meeting. I swear, I pick up the tiredness from everybody else around me, and that makes it really hard to fight off wanting a nap.

Oh, well. Just have stuff to do.

An amusing image - on photobucket, though, so it may or may not show up - Even though God hates furries, Jesus loves 'em. Speaking of God, or rather those who claim to speak for him, apparently the religious right is worried that a new cervical cancer vaccine will promote promiscuity. Riiiiiight. One wonders why they devote such time to proclaiming that disease and death are due to the deviant, rather that praising that the creations of God can step a little closer to being perfect like Him. Ah, well. There are some things we may never understand. In either case, though, it's bedtime - we've been up too much as it is.

Altoids Peppermint Chewing Gum. Great pick-me-up, I always have a tin in my car, frequently two when I'm driving. Got me through many a meeting. If it's a recurring meeting, I also will usually have a Starbucks Frappucino handy (I prefer the vanilla meself).

I don't drink coffee and don't care for hot drinks myself. I developed a taste for iced mochas, the chocolate and milk help to greatly weaken the taste of the coffee.

There are at least one other flavor of Altoids gum, a sour apple comes to mind. I don't care for it, but there may be others. It's a great way to rip your head off and keep you going.

Good luck!

Sour tangerine is my favorite for not-really-altoids Altoids. To stay awake in class, I just don't go... usually works like a charm. To stay awake at work, I drink water... Plain water keeps me awake just because if I fall asleep for more than 5 minutes, the need to go to the men's room wakes me up. (Primative, but it works.)

UBP (unbearable bladder pressure) and DALPAL (drink a lot, pee a lot) works for me!

wait a minute..aged 9-24?! What about us older women who are still at risk for HPV?! Turning 24 doesn't immediately put you at being immune to HPV, if anything I would think women over 24 are at a higher risk, because we're more likely to have muliple partners, which increases our risk. The statistica are something like by the age of 50, 80% of women will have been diagnosed with HPV. Not nesc. manifesting itself as Cervical Cancer, but still. There's no conclusive evidence if a condom prevents HPV or not, but considering it comes from any genital area touching, it can be transmitted through areas NOT covred by a condom. It's also not an STD that people will even know they have unless they have a breakout of warts or get tested. Males who have HPV rarely know. Personally, I'd shell out the $360 to know that I'd have a guarentee against Cervical Cancer. Any tye of cancer that involves my reproductive system scares the CRAP out of me, especially given my history of abnormal test results.

We're talking about a vaccine for cancer, and people are worried girls are going to think it's OK to have sex willy-nilly? If you educate the children on safe sex, as opposed to this silly abstinance-only BS they seem to be promoting in school, kids will KNOW that a vaccine that prevents HPV isn't going to do anything to prevent other STDs.

I'm very excited for a vaccine that will help to prevent a disease that's so horrible for a woman to go through - at any age.

To stay awake/alert, we reccomend Green Tea in the AM and keeping a stash of chocolate on hand. Other foods that can help you to stay alert include things like apples, carrots, protein bars, peanut butter, fruit juice, and fish (ew). also, make sure you're drinking your required 8 glasses of water each day, but be careful because when you drink ice water it very quickly cools down your body and you don't want to give yourself the chills.

But then again, if the meeting is boring, you might just get sleepy anyway :p

You might be picking up on other people's sleepiness if you are as empathic as I seem to be.

Now, if only I could find someone to borrow a little sleepiness from, as I woke up shivering 45 minutes ago and now can't get back to sleep!

That Cervical cancer thing has been going round for a while. Don't bother to speculate. Hope is all we have sometimes.
