Snowflake Challenge 2022 #14: A Random Assortment of Images

The Fourteenth Challenge says to find some neat things around you and post pictures of them.

This is probably the point where I mention to people that Dreamwidth does have image hosting capabilities, at 500 MB for free accounts, 1.5GB at paid accounts, and 3GB at premium paid accounts. The interface isn't the greatest to load everything in, but it does work, so you could potentially keep your pictures here rather than linking in through another service.

Despite saying this as my PSA, I'm mostly going to ignore it and instead link you to the pictures of things in their context in other places on the Internet, because I'm mean like that.

Okay, here's the scavenger hunt.
Look around your current space, whether digital or brick-n-mortar. Post a pic or description of:
  1. A fannish item

  2. Something round

  3. Something that is your favorite color

  4. The last game you played (video, phone, table top, etc.)

  5. A book you are currently reading

  6. Album art of the first song that comes up on shuffle

  7. The last movie you watched

  8. TV show you're currently watching

  9. The homescreen, lockscreen, or desktop wallpaper from your device

Seems simple enough, right? There are, of course, stories that accompany most of the things that get featured, because artifacts always carry stories with them.

  1. A fannish item

  2. Have two. Specifically, they're some of the earliest fannish items I have, and they serve a very specific purpose in my house, even though I've got them facing the opposite directions of their normal directional alignment. The main images on The Celestial Warriors of Suzaku and The Celestial Warriors of Seriyuu are wall scrolls of prominence in my space. They fit properly because the Suzaku scroll is in the same wall as the primary screen, and the Seriyuu one on the secondary screen wall, even if I would need to reverse them to get their celestial orientations correct.

The two wall scrolls represent the duality of each of the cast, sand they've been laid out so that each warrior is mirrored to their counterpart on the other scroll, with their chosen priestess in the middle. There's mirroring in the priestesses as well, between the costuming choices made in the picture and the general arcs of their stories inside the book. (I should probably look for the great longfic that's been written about the two of them reconciling after their experiences and going on to becoming the kind of people who start extremely close to each other because they're the only living people to have gone through what they did when they were young.)

  3. Something round

  4. It's a button. It's from the Gen I era of Pokémon, with the dot matrix style of text generation from the original Game Boy line of handhelds. It offers three choices, one more than the original did:

    I am a:
    • (unselected) Boy

    • (unselected) Girl

    • (selected) Legendary Pokémon

It was a housemate gift for the December holiday, and it is definitely on my work lanyard right now. I have a feeling that for those who know, it works exceedingly well, and for those that don't, they think it's something fannish. Here's the picture I was looking for of this button, provided by the gift-giver.

  5. Something that is your favorite color

  6. There are very few things that truly are my favorite color, because it's really hard not to slide into a gray of some sort, and things that are made of the material itself can easily tarnish or otherwise end up being off-color themselves.

But, I realize I do have something that would be the right color of it were new, instead of found. I have a Keyblade on my keychain. Found it at some point, and it's turned out to be useful in a lot of situations.

  7. The last game you played (video, phone, table top, etc.)

  8. YGBBB
    BGYYB
    BGGYB
    BGGBG
    GGGGG

Which, y'know, I tend to go putting in words I think will work as I think of them, which often means I often spend an extra guess on a word that fits but turns out to be wrong.

  9. A book you are currently reading

  10. Recommended to me by a co-worker, Black Nerd Problems - link goes to the Kirkus review of the book, rather than to the website the book is a collection of essays from.

  11. Album art of the first song that comes up on shuffle

  12. Lucky me! Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum came up, because I apparently need to listen to Ruler of Everything.

  13. The last movie you watched

  14. Encanto, naturally, like everyone else. Have some fanart of some members of the Family Madrigal for the visual. (Changed from original, because apparently it's harder than it looks to find people who do good fanart without espousing beliefs that make the Fandom Old that I am go "Surely you learned something better than this from your fannish elders.") Also, since more fanart of people of the Family Madrigal.

  15. TV show you're currently watching

  16. Okay, I've already binged it pretty well, but it looks like we're getting a third season of Lower Decks in the summer, barring catastrophe. Have some fanart of the four ensigns that make the show tick.

  17. The homescreen, lockscreen, or desktop wallpaper from your device

  18. I'd like a better source for this than the Internet gives, but if you want to see Sakaki's nemesis, a cat that chomps her hand as payment for attempted petting, here he is, Kamineko, in all his evil grin glory, of which a cropped version exists as a lock screen on a device I have owned.

*grinning*

…and the Encanto fanartist's bio says, because I have the audacity to be pro allowing works to which either of AO3's sex-related archive warnings or several similar commonly-squicky freeforms apply to exist without anyone abusing their creators for creating them, I do not get to reblog the fanart. fine, their loss.
