Tomorrow: No school. Yay, us.

Lots to do tomorrow. Should, though, all move quickly if all is according to plan.
IBM does Open Source. Perhaps for different reasons than others, but Microsoft really is the Evil Empire these days, isn't it? After all, people are finding good reasons to eat at McDonalds. If it weren't for my gaming addiction, I might be running a Linux box. Maybe. I've had some trouble with the nVidia module crashing X before, so I'd want a separate hard drive to install on. I may want a separate hard drive to do Linux on anyway, have it boot that way first, and then see if I can basically run what I'm running now over on that kernel. If it's possible, it would be interesting. Of course, it would take some getting used to as well.
Just so long as I don't run into The Lord of the Matrix, I should be okay. I'll use the Magic Pu Bridge to get back safely.

bradhicks about the apparent stereotype of the LJ users as "bubble-headed teenage girls" by several places that noted the recent outage. Now, having seen a couple of those myself, I can't say they don't exist, but I wonder if they're really the majority, or like with most things, they're just loud, annoying, and draw attention to themselves while the rest of us wish they would shut up.
He does draw an extension out of it that since LJ is seen as a "women/girl" site, the contents of it aren't accorded as much status as other sites' blogs or other blog sites. He links this to a pervasive stereotype still existing that things "womanly" are not being accorded equal respect, something I can nod at even as I gaze quizzically for confirmation from somewhere else.
The other possible facet is the "non-geek" factor of having a blogging tool without any of the code-hacking done to put it on your webspace. And so we're all script kiddies of the blogging world. That's a "four" response if it ever needed one. Anyway, there's also a possibly fascinating discussion to be had about using LJ as a "diary" versus using LJ as a "blog" and various degrees of respect accorded in such manners, butbradhicks didn't go too far into it, other than to mention that since LJ started in "diary" fashion, that's the image everyone sticks to it. (It's how I use it for the most part, simply chronicling my mundanities. I like to think I give it a little help with the thoughts, ramblings, and outside links, but at its core, it's probably still just a diary for me.)
And now, to catch up on sleep deprivation brought about by the conference this weekend. Lots to do tomorrow as well, but hopefully it'll all run smoothly.
