Welcome to the Aftermath.
Nov. 4th, 2004 12:24 amHappy birthday to my younger sister. As noted previously, Mr. Kerry has conceded the presidential race, drawing derision from many and guarded applause from others. The trombone section mailing list had a fairly heated discussion over politics, more on the local gay marriage ban that passed than the presidential election. I did my best to avoid contributing wood to the fire, but I did reach out and smack someone for making simplistic arguments. Besides, anything that I could have said had already been said and retorted to. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The list will quiet down in a bit, since, as some on my friends list have noted, it is not the end of the world. It is merely the beginning of the second reign. Active dissent over the policies of the government may me more likely now.
Mr. Kerry, in his concession speech, spoke of a need to unite America. Pipe dreams at the moment, Mr. Kerry, but a correct conclusion. The real question is what the uniting will be over.
In more mundane matters, learning the new spot will take work... all the flanks are in the wrong places. But I will be able to do it. The thesis now progresses swimmingly. I can begin to see shape and form, now I just need to get the massive amounts of data contained in my readings into a writeable, constructable, and ultimately linked form. Here's where the focusing needs to begin... and I need to find a title, too.
