So I'm probably going to drown in the handouts of one of these courses. Which is bad, because the teacher doesn't project, either, and so if I sit back far enough, I can lose her when I daydream. Not that I'm daydreaming, really...

Up Top, we see that the California Assembly passed a bill that would change the marriage definition to "two persons". However, it looks like the CW says that the Governator's not going to sign it, preferring to let the courts or the referendums do the talking. (Edit: Yeah, that's the plan.) Which, I suppose, is a smart political move - doesn't piss too many people off. So it's treading water there, but who knows what could develop out of the possibilities?

Anyway. The Atkins Diet is probably bad for you - apparently, the Donner party had tried it many years before now. And apparently, in a Twilight Zone time warp sort of way, you can still get Atlas bodybuilding programs. You know, the comic about the guy who gets sand kicked on him, then becomes a behemoth and kicks the bully's arse? The one from quite a long time ago (okay, maybe not that long ago - I remember seeing adverts like that in the back of my Boy's Life magazine, back when I was a Cub Scout.)

Free association appears to be the name of this game. They call it HipBone for a reason that I have just now figured out. (I make no guarantees of anywhere else, but how is one usually introduced to the skeletal structure in the US?) Here's where you find the boards and rules. Fascinating possibilities.

Speaking of possibilities, remember that partial alternate history idea I linked to before? Well, someone took it out a little further. So I link, this time, the Optimistic Alternate Timeline of what could have happened if everything had fallen into place just perfectly, starting with the election of Al Gore in 2000. Major events, at least most of them, remain unchanged, but apparently the Democratic leadership is also able to provide universal health care and prevent the two events that have been the hallmark of the Bush presidencies - the September 11 WTC attack and the Katrina Hurricane. They also apparently catch Osama after a week or two, convince Iraq to become a democracy at Saddam's death, bring down the national debts by raising taxes on the rich, and expose Enron as the corrupt institution it was. No mention of any federal legislation that allows for same-sex marriage - perhaps that one wasn't feasible? It's a nice speculation, but I think it overly optimistic.

Plus, I am vindicated! Someone else agrees that Netspeak has a proper place. I'd like to see most of it scrubbed from the earth, mind you, but that's a personal preference. If people limit it to places where it might actually be appropriate, my life would be much easier. Additionally (see if you can follow the line of thought on this one) the idea of Dilbert's garbageman being a genius might not be that far off at all.Several figures deemed to be "enlightened" never held rank or power. Some might think that it's a pre-requisite to being seen as such.

Anyway, a split course tomorrow - discussions in the morning, lecture in the afternoon. Possible chatting with persons and assignment work in between. It feels like there's going to be a lot of time this semester spent sitting, staring at a blinking cursor as I try to figure out what to write. Hopefully I emerge on the other side relatively unscathed.
