Wow, that was fun.
Dec. 3rd, 2006 03:11 pmWell, yesterday was a sanity-food-enjoyment day. Helped
nikolai celebrate his birthday, then had to abandon that to go out and be stuffed to the gills by
greyweirdo‘s fantastic feast. Ate plenty, had lots of good conversation, came home early this morning, slept. It was a good day. Hopefully, I’ll have more days like that in my future.
Hepling continue to prove that music and speech are related concepts - NewScientist says that how you speak affects how you hear things. Music, then, as adding instrumentation and cadence, might be considered good, or be popular based on how well it mimics its audience’s speaking style. (Hrm. What does pop music say about the speech patterns of those who listen to and love it?)
Bush acknowledges public anxiety over Iraq, but insists on staying in. It’s like he says, “I understand you, son, but freedomfreedomfreedomfreedomfreedom. You will support the war in Iraq, won’t ya?”
The Moon may not be such a great place to think about colonization and/or terraforming, as many more rocks and hitting its surface than previously thought. That’s the problem with a no-atmosphere zone - there’s nothing to stop those wild hooligans from smashing into wherever they feel like.
Cactus architecture! Making sure everyone gets their sun, yo, since we need it. That Seasonal Affective Disorder can be a nightmare.
Making a correction: Apparently, it’s not Dobson who believes that a Muslim congressperson shouldn’t take the oath on the Qu’ran, but some dude named Dennis Prager. If it’s satire, it’s too subtle for me, so I still think a slushball down his pants would probably be an appropriate retaliation for espousing such things.
Drop this idea in your bookmarks, for the time when you may need to have unfettered access in your travels, or in case your government decides to throw off the appearance of being a democracy and show you what’s really going on. Psiphon, a tool to circumvent government censorhip, set to launch soon. Could someone explain to me why government institutions decide that they need to have control on all information? Or that they decide they want to release certain things, like putting "non-serious" offenses in the criminal background checks that employers run. Not only can your Facebook profile damn you, but the one time you got busted up for being at a loud party? Yeah, all your potential employers might be able to see that, too. And with 1 in 32 Americans either in jail or on parole, there’s a lot of people who might get screwed out of a job because of the new system. Taking that as a baseline, though, there’s probably a halo of people who, while not in jail, on parole, or ever actually having been in jail, might still not get a job because they accumulated some minor offenses in their earlier years. I’m definitely not a fan.
For this segment, the final part is Quicktime. Since World AIDS Day was on Friday, this particular campaign follows the travels of a young man discovering his sexuality and searching for his love. The message is pretty simple: Protect yourself, so that you live long enough to find your true love. (Again, QT) Makes pretty good sense to me. And that works for boys and girls, whichever orientation you have. Kepe yourself alive long enough to enjoy the benefits of love. Because we don’t want to have to miss you any earlier than we should.
