silveradept: The emblem of Organization XIII from the Kingdom Hearts series of video games. (Organization XIII)
Not much for actual work done today. I did, however, implement another major function, and realized that I need to actually generate something to control users from the Administrator position. After that, though, and assuming there aren’t bugs in the code (showstoppers, like the ones that error), then I think all I need to do is figure out the authorization plugin and how to get them to work properly. That will make a functional application, I think. Which is sweet to have in hand by the first code release. That makes the rest easier - it’ll just be adding pretty and learning how to tweak things just so. This makes the next month look a little less stressful. (Good thing.) It was a fairly relaxing day today, spent watching hockey and catching the last two ends of the Brier. I haven’t even really looked at the basketball tournament seedings, knowing that my university’s team is in the NIT.

Looking into the link department, it would appeal that Windows Live OneCare may be a bit zealous in quarantining or deleting e-mail with malicious attachments - to the point of taking the whole set of mail folders with the offending message. Sounds like a feature that’s working like it was programmed to do. Which is generally not what people want it to do. Another good example of this is Apple’s Fairplay, which Roughly Drafted explains in layman's language. It does exactly as it is programmed to do. Which is why we hate the recording companies so very much for insisting on DRM being included.

Swinging out into the political sphere, the United States and Iran are holding direct talks on the matter of Iraq. It’s not material about the nuclear programme of Iran, but it’s being hailed as a possible thaw that could end up resulting in more direct talks on the nuclear issues or others. The Iranian president would like to attend United Nations Security Council meetings on matters pertaining to his counry's nuclear programme, for example.

Speaking of weaponry, the last of the United States's stockpile of VX rockets are now destroyed, the AP reports. I hope that’s all the VX rockets there are being destroyed, but I’m not sure that there aren’t others in the hands of foreign countries or other entities.

American Samidzat rounds up four articles about some of the less-than-stellar examples of religion in the news. Abuse, abuse, abuse, and laws that supposedly make it easier to prosecute homosexual abusers than heterosexual ones. We’d prefer that there be no abuse, and that everyone get prosecuted under the law on it. Just remember, Christ died for our donuts.

Joe Bageant gives us another “Don’t Blame Me, I Voted For Kodos”-type of article about how the American left and right are distracted from the real issues, like globalization, by the smokescreens thrown up, like fights over abortion rights. This is not a new complaint, nor a rare one, but it seems to show up every now and then, be ignored, fade away, then show up again later... to be ignored again.

When it comes to UFOs or other alien-type things, getting one’s fix of information may be easier thanks to IBM software. IBM's Omnifind software and the Anomalies network are launching UFO Crawler, an engine tuned toward finding good information about the paranormal. If it’s done well, it could very well be a Google for ghosties.

Danish scientists are proposing an alternate theory of nerve transmission. Nerves transmit their impulses by sound rather than by electrical impulse. Maybe myelin then turns out to be a way of holding the sound and echoing it more effectively down the pathway.

Madison, Wisconsin has been named the "most walkable" city in the United States. Which is a big boost for it, to be walkable even when the weather is frigid and snowy. Out here, we’re not exactly close enough to be walkable, almost anywhere in the state. We could stand to have better public transport and walkable communities out here. But considering it’s the heart of the Rust Belt, I don’t think this state will be making things more walkable any time soon.

Memeage... and once again, I’ve managed to score one of the explicitly female roles. (Unless they were all intended to be female, and then, I managed to score the divine one)

You scored as Goddess. You are a goddess. Your constantly helping people with their problems, but you never take time for you. You should try to take some alone time. Take a trip far away, where noone knows you. It will be good for you, because you deserve a break.

And if you’ve stuck through all of that, have a look at this oddity - Stalin versus Hitler. Where both of them have mystical powers. If that’s not strange enough, I’ll present scientists claiming that they've found a hormone that helps to gauge teenage mood swings when measured.

The last point, however, is some statistics released that says the United States is way higher than Europe in pregnancy, birth, abortion, and STD/STIs per 1000 teenagers. So sex ed, where it actually exists, doesn’t seem to be totally effective. We could definitely use a universal and effective education programme here, just so that we can get rid of all the nonsense.

I’ll be heading toward bed now. Have still much to do before I graduate.
