Yes, yes, another of those “date-significant” sorts of things. Don’t worry about it. Although there may have been a retrograde of Mercury, too. I did manage, through hook, crook, and several other weird things, to upgrade my distribution of Kubuntu without serious injury or harm. Although Firefox doesn’t work for it, Swiftfox, which is apparently a customized version for a particular CPU type, does. And so I have with me all the things I needed to ensure that all of my final project pages validate their HTML. Woot. Project finished, assuming my tester doesn’t find any show-stopping bugs. That’ll be tomorrow. From there, it’s to the lab for printing and hole-punching, and then we’re finished. Finally. It’ll be all over then. Hahaha.

After all that, I could use a drink. How about Alexander's Brother and Alexander's Sister? In moderation, of course. If we need to be healthier, consuming less salt could have overall health effects, not just lowering blood pressure.

Anyway, it seems there’s no thing too tragic or small to make political comparisons with. Witness Oliver North in Townhall as he compares the shootings at Virginia Tech to what will happen in a larger scale if Iran continues on their current path without intervention. Or people believe that the shooter was devil-possessed. Working on more benign responses to the shooting, the Buddhist Geeks use it as an example of why nonviolent needs to be practiced in all ways at all times, so that enlightenment can be achieved. [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks takes a much more carnal approach and wonders maybe the shooter just needed to get laid and see that he could be loved. As a possibility, anyway. It’s a very interesting account of how, perhaps we could get along better if everyone could get laid, even the people who feel like nobody would love them.

In Iraq, walls are being built to separate the Sunni and the Shi'ite sections of the city. Are Berlin comparisons apt in this case? Will the wall just come down quickly? Getting some perspective on the conflict, look at Iraq through the eyes of a child.

Could I get some more information about the rate hike being railed against in this The Nation article? All I seem to get is “Small publishers will get squeezed, while big ones don’t pay anything!” I’d like some numbers on this.

Looking back at the past’s look at the future is Paleo-Future, which shows us what we thought was the future... and how much of it we’ve missed out on.

Last for tonight is something sweet - cake art. All of those are edible, or so it’s claimed. So with visions of sugary things dancing in your heads... I’m going to bed. I could use the sleep.
