Carpet cleaning should be today. After that, all is well. Theoretically. At lunch, I'm going to try and get my license changed, and possibly my credit union account finally all set up, and then maybe, I'll have fially compmleted everything. Maybe.

So today is Patriot Day, according to the government, a way of trying to inspire us to become chest-thumpers because we remember the other thing that happened six years ago today. Which means that lots of people will be talking about it. And they should be talking about what happened there, and the consequences of it, and whether things have become better or worse because of the reactions to it. Americablog offers a compact take. It may be time to engage in some uniquely American activities, like, as the Slacktivist notes, proving your patriotism today by questioning others'. Other may take that thought beyond words and into deeds as an apparent defacement of the Vietnam Memorial suggests. Although I'm sure that everyone gets the stunningly brilliant comparison between the problems in Vietnam and the problems in Iraq, if it was a defacement, there are better ways to express one's displeasure at the way the government has run things. The comments immediately saying "it's those darned leftists' fault" aren't doing much to foster kindness, and are probably much more an exercise like the Slacktivist describes above.

After all of that, recall the article about probability and statistical likelihood of death by X, and read that most of your countrymen believe there will be another terrorist attack on United States soil. Which has either low or high probability, depending on what definition and scope you're thinking of, and how many people will be injured/kiled by it. As [livejournal.com profile] greyweirdo notes, a nice dose of unschooling might help us learn some. Then again, we've been doing unschooling all our lives, no doubt.

Anyway, off to the public services component of the job. Yay, desk time!

The later news feed is as follows:

Windows worm propagating through Skype. So, as always, be careful who you chat with, and don't blindly install files.

Hot stuff! Erie man finds a way to shake loose hydrogen in salt water with RF, and then set said hydrogen on fire. The temperatures can reach up to 3,000 F. The salt-water-powered hydrogen engine? That would be interesting. Might even make cars safer. Question is whether a tank of salt water will get you the same range and efficiency as a tank of gasoline.
