Well, that was definitely a fun weekend. Finished up a cataloging project, got food shopping done, and just had lots of fun hanging out with people. Over the weekend, Doctor Football’s troops continued to roll, and it looks like it’s a Blue Bomber / Michigan Man rumble for history. In two weeks, we see whether Doctor Football’s got the stuff to go completely undefeated, or whether with all his new upgrades, Mega Manning can do what nobody else has been able to do this year. The battleground has been chosen. The sides are ready. Let’s play Blood Bowl.

The power for such a battle will likely come from giant crystals just discovered in Mexico. This is assuming that hackers threatening to cause blackouts in major cities don’t interrupt the proceedings.

Today is a day of remembrance for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, an outspoken critic of discrimination, war, and the evils of government. While in his speeches, he spoke of a world where race and color are the last things on people’s minds, if they appear at all, Cynthia Tucker believes that rather than working out our prejudices, we've buried them so far down that we don't see them as such. And Mr. Romney might be a good person to use as an example based on his recent behavior in "celebration" of the day today.

In other news, Mike Huckabee looks less and less like a desirable candidate each day. According to his top immigration underling, Mr. Huckabee wants to amend the Constitution to stop children of illegal aliens born on United States soil from becoming United States citizens.

Mr. Bush’s reassurances on the American economy were insufficient for investors to act upon, and worldwide stock markets fell in anticipation of recession talk. As the case may be, the world may be headed for a downturn, which might be good for some and much worse for others.

Andrew J. Bacevich is still unconvinced that Iraq has made any real progress, considering the political apparatus doesn’t seem to be effective, there’s plenty of ill will still banked from the invasion and current occupation, and there’s still a lot of troops overseas.

A couple of chefs have decided to add the butchering part of meat preparation to their television shows in an attempt to get people to confront the idea that meat had to come from living animals at some point. At least they’re not going out trying to injure people with chainsaws, cackling something about how they should like the taste of human meat. And no, I have not gone and seen Sweeny Todd. In other edged news, the United Kingdom's Home Office plans on introducing new plans on reducing knife carrying in UK schools. I still wonder when people are going to look at the schooling system in general and see where the pressure points are that produce the maelstrom that primary schooling is. That would be nice. More likely? The development and use of drugs that curb the feelings of loneliness and improves memory so that everyone feels fine, even if they’re social pariahs.

The Nintendo Wii continues to be an innovative tool for much more than game playing - after warming up on the Wii by playing games that required fine motor control and dexterity, trainee surgeons scored better on simulations. So a couple rounds of Marble Madness before surgery, just to make sure everything moves right. Neat.

Google is branching out again - now scientists will have access to terabytes of storage for science datasets. The catch is that all the data and results will be open-sourced and free to everyone to examine and learn from.

That’s my writingstuff for tonight. We leave you with the American version of the statue of Ozymandias.
