Have you ever had a pen pal? If so, are you still writing to them?

I'm pretty sure I've had one or two. I've gotten some nice postcards from [personal profile] james and correspondence from other people. I don't do a lot of postal writing, though.

Do you prefer writing by hand or typing?

It depends on whether the person on the receiving end is a person that can decipher my handwriting. When printing, I'm usually pretty legible, but if I slip into cursive for speed, I can slide very quickly into illegible. I would like to write more than type for specific situations, but I'm also not yet willing to put in the time and brush strokes to learn calligraphic writing.

Think of one of the biggest decisions you've had to make in your life. If you had made a different choice, how different would your life be now?

You assume I would still be here based on that divergent path. And that might be true. And it might not.

Have you ever taken a course on CPR?

I have. And I think my certifications are long-expired at this point, and I need to retake the class.

What is your favorite thing to have as a snack?

I seem to be partial to a certain brand of cheese-flavored crackers as a snack to always have around.

What is the best thing about the Internet?

The networking of people, knowledge, and information in such a way that people can find friends in isolated places, get information that is being withheld from them by censorious actors, and collaborate for work and entertainment in all sorts of different places. Now, if someone would please figure out how to taxonomically organize everything, that would be fabulous.

Is there a person you know who seems to surround themselves with drama?

Ya, sure. There's at least one in the high halls of government right now.

What's the best thing you've made with your own hands?

That's a fantastic question. I haven't built a whole lot of anything from absolute scratch, and my art skills are still well below what my taste is in art, so none of those things would necessarily qualify as "best". Maybe some music, using the instrument in the hands?

Which social media platforms do you frequent the most?

Dreamwidth, generally, occasionally Twitter. Didn't join the Facebook craze, so lots of people already have a perfectly good idea of who I am from my shadow profile, but it's not me.

What makes you laugh most effortlessly?

Effortlessly? A good joke can do it, as can things that are comedically timed, such as accidental wind-breaking in the middle of a (theoretically) serious thing.

What makes you cry almost effortlessly?

Lately, it's the thought of having a limited time of existence and all of the things that will happen beyond the body's incarnation. The sort of thing where knowing that you're going to miss out on all the stuff that was spoken of in science fiction because you're not far enough into the future to experience them. But generally speaking, most things involving deaths tend to tug very hard on my heart and tear ducts.

What is the best smell in the whole world?

I don't know. There are a lot of tasty smells that come out of cooking, though.

Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind of watch?

Yep. A hand-me-down Pebble smartwatch. What I really need is a Dick Tracy model that I can dictate into, but I also don't want to shell out the several hundreds of dollars I would need for a watch with that kind of ability. Plus, they don't do important things like vibrate when Pokemon are in the area.

Is there a number or combination of numbers that feels important to you?

Sure. My age is one of them.

What is the most socially awkward thing you've done?

...exist? I'm not exactly charming or witty in reality, and it seems pretty limited in text, so... yeah. It might be that the most socially awkward thing I've done is live through my adolescence.

What is in the top drawer of your desk?

At work, it's probably papers and other things. At home, my desk doesn't have a drawer.

What is a topic you could give a presentation on without preperation?

The importance of reading fluency in young children and the reasons why public libraries and schools are both critical to literacy and understanding in the population.

What's the silliest thing you own?

If you say that I own my cat, then the cat qualifies.

What do you think of people who wear lensless glasses?

That, generally speaking, people don't want to see a cameraperson reflected on their movie screens.

What's your favorite accessory?

I don't usually have one, unless there's a stuffed puppet that's not on hide-and-seek assignment that I can play with.

Do you enjoy cooking?

Sure, when things turn out okay.

Which piece of technology do you use the most every day?

The pocket computer that also happens to connect to a telephone network.

How do you handle pressure?

By trying to get it off as quickly as possible.

What makes you feel good about yourself?

...precious little these days, and most of them are tied to virtual experiences.

If you could eat absolutely anything right now, what would it be?

Something strange and difficult to obtain, I'm sure, that's supposed to be incredibly tasty.

What is the strangest book on your bookshelf?

Define "strange."

Do you like cheese? If so, what's your favorite kind?

I do like cheeses. Pepperjack seems to have a higher ranking than many in my list.

If you could dress up as someone, who would you dress up as?

That's a good question, and I suppose it depends on the budget I have for costuming and aninmatronics, because the more budget and talent I have to work with, the more elaborate the character I could choose. Let's say that my budget starts at the level of a transforming hero character and goes up.

Do you ever feel like danding in public, when you're listening to music?

Sure, but only if there's nobody around to bump into. And possibly to witness.

When are you at your most energetic?

When I've eaten and drank and slept enough to be not hungry, thirsty, or sleep-deprived.

Do you prefer cold or warm drinks>?

Seasonally and contextually dependent, but I probably use more ice than heat on the average.

Is your computer decorated in any way?

AT work, the machine itself is not, but everything else around it is. At home, I have stickers on the machine boxes.

Do you enjoy birds' singing in the morning?

In much the same way I enjoy the cat using me as a springboard while I'm sleeping. Which is to say, if it wakes me up in the morning, I'm going to be much less happy about it.

What is a chore you enjoy doing?

I'm okay with the part that requires me to load a washing machine and dryer and cart baskets and bags up and down. Folding and hanging and that, less so.

What was your favorite toy when you were growing up?

I think the favorite toy I had was, terribly enough, one that I didn't get a whole lto of use out of - it was a marble-flinging baseball stadium where the "pitcher" shot marbles at various speeds and the "hitter" flicked a switch to try and hit the marble into pockets that had bases on them instead of outs.

Do you like playing cards? If so, what's your favorite game?

I do like having a set of cards handy, although I don't have nearly as amny people around to play regularly with. There's a progression of games taught and learned in the family that starts with Eights. Once the skip-counting and addition skills are good enough to be somewhat reliable, games progress to Cribbage. After trick-taking is taught, we step up to Hearts, colloquially known as Nasty Cards for the way that it brings out all sorts of statements. Trumps having been established as a concept, we go to Euchre, which is a game that is quick but strange compared to all the previous ones. Once Euchre makes sense, we learn Pinochle. And then, if we actually want to learn it, there's Bridge, but I don't particularly like Bridge. It's fascinating as a game where the objective is to describe your hand to your partner before anyone plays a card, but I haven't had the inclination to want to study it a whole lot.
