...rule number one: Whenever asking Divinity for something, stop. Make sure that what you want is something that you can receive without unforeseen consequences or methods of delivery. If it passes a thorough and complete muster, then go ahead and ask. Otherwise, keep your mind and mouth shut.

What brings this on? Well, today got off to a bad start. I overslept because I forgot to turn my alarm on. Thus at 8:30 I popped out of bed, said a very loud (woke my roomies up) expletive, and made a good 100-meter dash down to the field... so I was only an hour late for practice.

Not horrible, right? Well, excepting for one thing. The band has a policy about game-day rehearsals... if you're more than fifteen minutes late to them, you lose your spot in the halftime and pregame shows... and someone else takes your place. No exceptions. So basically, the work I did all for today's show is for nothing. It was homecoming, too, the show where everybody marches, so there were no people to take my spot in halftime... so there was a hole where I should have been. (That didn't make too much sense to me, but a rule's a rule, ya know...)

Normally, such things can be avoiding on game day by the staff calling the domicile of the person who is about to be late and attempting to rouse them from sleep. This was supposedly done to my apartment. Well, the call never came through. It would have woke someone up, and everybody slept peacefully. Well, I thought it might have been because I didn't update my number from my summer residence... so I checked my data... and I had given them the right number.

SO, naturally, I went from being totally pissed at myself for not setting the alarm to about a half-and-half situation. I wasn't the only one late, either. Someone else hadn't set their alarm and arrived late as well. That lends credence to the theory that the staff didn't call to wake us up at all, onto which then most of the blame for my lateness sits on their shoulders.

I still got to play for the football game in the stands, though, and I got to see Michigan thrash Illinois, 56-14.

Then I went out for my section's Progressive, where we go from one residence to another, tasting and enjoying drinks for most of the night. Unfortunately, I think our own stop's drinks were the best of the bunch. So that was a bit of a letdown... and I have Stuff To Do tomorrow that's not even class related... so I'm basically going to pretend that only the football game and the Progressive happened today until I can forget the rest totally.

Oh, well. Time marches on...

Oh, I hope you feel better soon! It was pretty cool to see that UM won another game, though. Let's hope that it keeps up.
