So today involved the Hands-On Museum and dinner at the Arbor Brewing Company, where there were a lot of people talking about things I had no clue to join in on. But that’s okay. I enjoyed the food, and everyone else was definitely having a good time.

It’s taken me six to do what I wanted to do - a prodigy will be completing her bachelor's in psychology after one year of study at the University of Michigan. This has been prefaced by many advanced placement and community college courses that were taken beforehand, and then semesters of 19 and 27 credits. From there, law school at Wayne State. Good luck, and don’t get burnt out, please.

Rudy Guliani just declared his unfitness for the office of the President of the United States. With no subtlety at all, Guliani says that if a Republican isn't elected, more terrorism will happen. He then further thought of himself as the most qualified candidate of the Republicans. While it’s nice to see naked ambition being displayed like this, I think this statement makes him unfit for the office under the Groucho Marx theory.

Speaking of people possibly unfit for office - articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney were introduced by an Ohio representative. Whether they go anywhere is another thing entirely, but I applaud the representative for taking that step. Other possible things to investigate include an article from AlterNet saying the 2004 Ohio vote count was conducted through servers sympathetic to the Republican Party and hosting Republican sites. So in addition to missing e-mail that’s been “lost”, perhaps there should be further inquiries as to why a theoretically nonpartisan vote was being shuttled through partisan servers.

In a different Iraq thing - on again, off again, on again - apparently the barrier's going ahead as scheduled. Will someone get their story straight, please?

Toyota passes General Motors in sales for the first quarter. Because selling small, efficient cars in a rising-gas prices era is a smart move.

A blue rose has been created through genes implanted into the rose from other flowers. Now, I have a suspicion we’ll be able to create roses in all colors and pigments of flowers. A rainbow bouquet may soon be coming to a florist near you. (Of course, I might be wrong. That could be like Paleo-Future's exhibit of 1900 postcards depicting the year 2000 as a flight of fancy.)

You know the rule about not taunting or irritating the animals? Here’s why you don’t do it - a boy that taunted crocodiles with sticks and shot things at them was eaten when one of the crocodiles seized his clothes and dragged him into the water where all the other crocodiles were.

Apparently, lolcats can has regular grammar. It’s a look at the possible consistency of lolcats and the macros that come from it with a specific way of speaking/conjugating. Or maybe they just have too much time on their hands.

Yesterday, I remember linking to a Lip Magazine article that said that things like Don Imus were a symptom of a bigger problem, but that the media wasn’t going to focus on it. The Independent has an article about a hip-hop pioneer telling rappers and artists not to use the derogatory language. Which is reasonable, but it puts the onus on a particular group to clean up their language before the rest of us have to do anything. That’s not fair.

In tech news, Congress appears to be taking up the issue of spyware - badly. According to this article, while spyware would be a problem, any person that you do business with (or that does business with you) can install or use spyware (DRM) on your computers, and are held not liable if said spyware should damage your computer. Which means that zealous measures like the Sony rootkit would be considered legitimate. And the best thing is that it would require the FTC or an Attorney General of a state to initiate an action against anyone. We hope this act fails miserably, if all those things are true.

Going back to something passed to me earlier - the American Family Association conducted a poll that is apparently meant to show an overwhelming majority of people would be less likely to do business with a corporation that “supported the homosexual agenda”. The numbers, however, were a little suspicious then, especially after seveal people communicated about their vote, and the numbers are still suspicious now. Because the numbers don’t seem to change, even after people vote. With no indication that the poll has closed, such a thing would normally update itself, right? But some wonder whether those numbers are hard-coded into the page, and that this is a trick to harvest e-mail or to try and dishearten people who want to provide or obtain equal benefits for their partners/employees.

A contributor to Buddhist Geeks addresses an important part of good practice - making sure that the zeal to learn and practice doesn't turn into self-abuse and recrimination. Accepting oneself, as one is, imperfections and all, and going about the path to enlightenment with that in mind. That takes some doing, but it’s that place where the “progress” is made.

Anyway, I think I have a long night tomorrow - people are coming in from out of state with the intent of making sure I have a celebratory drink or two for my graduation on Friday. If you’re within range of my current location, you’re invited to stop by tomorrow or during some part of the weekend. Give me mail or commentary or something else so that I can tell you where I am, and you can join the cavalcade. There may be an official party-type thing later on in the year, but that’ll probably be a combined party for my finishing the Master’s program, my brother graduating high school, and my mother getting an associate’s degree. So there may be a lot more people at that one.
