Sense, Nonsense, and Not-Sense

For Mastodon, I like https://blorbo.social with some caveats.

1. It is hosted in Australia, which means that Australia's content rules apply to the server. This, in particular to fandom, means that the artistic visual depiction of sex that includes people under Australia's age of consent is not allowed. At all. So if that artistic content is something you would be posting, or viewing from other federated instances, then you should not use this instance.

2. It is small. That includes small hosting limits. Currently this is being done on the honor system, to please carefully limit the amount of visual media you're uploading, but the admin reserves the right to put hard limits if the honor system doesn't do it. (This is why I don't post half as many images as I did on Twitter.)

First point of general recommendation for mastodon as a fannish experience that interacts with Dreamwidth: syndication/feeds! You can set up feeds for individuals on almost any instance, and read them from your reading page at a slight delay, and possibly without images.

Second point: Someone has floated to Mark the concept of using Mastodon federation protocol for Dreamwidth's public reading experience. Mark is thinking about it (in his copious spare time (n.b. he is married with children and an airplane)) and others who would like to think about it should probably hop on Discord and ponder.
