I lost the lottery.
Jun. 20th, 2024 04:54 pmSwiss cheese defense is all the best that we can do, but for me at least, something managed to get through. So now I'm resting and trying not to do too much that might strain me or give SARS-CoV-2 any greater of a foothold on me.
If only we'd decided that a public health emergency actually was one and that we needed to see it through, instead of taking whatever path was the shortest to get everything back to the way it was. (I hope all the people who contributed to this infection get punched in the junk by some celestial entity.)

Date: 2024-06-21 01:36 am (UTC)I'm specifically referring to The 1948 Shirley Jackson story The Lottery, where a person in a town is chosen at random to be stoned to death, as well as some commentary in it about the weight of tradition and how some people will resist the idea of change, even if change would result in less people dying.

Date: 2024-06-21 10:07 am (UTC)I'm so sad that we've been so completely let down by the structures that should support us, that we're left to stack up the swiss cheese ourselves.
Wishing you all the best.
