Date: 2004-11-01 11:24 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, deffinatly, but telling them they can't causes the parents of the child to raise a fuss, as they did. The biggest problem is that it causes a no win situation for the school. If they say yes, they get angry parents who want science at school and God at Church and if they say no then a group of religuous folks who imagine their being discriminated against to scream "That proves it."
I wouldn't want to be in the school boards shoes frankly. Thought I'd rather see the flyers banned than to open up the kind of flood gates that would start. Today the kid comes home with a "Jesus is great flyer", tomorrow a "Everyone including your dog is going to hell" flyer. Either that or the kids are going to have Hari-Krishna's handing them flowers like you always see in the Airplane movies.
