The [community profile] snowflake_challenge has put out challenge number 10, and it works in media that I generally do not think in nor work in.

Challenge #10: Big Mood (Board)

CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND CREATE A MINI MOOD COLLECTION OF THREE (or more) ITEMS THAT EVOKE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT IT. You don’t have to limit yourself to visual media, or collect the items into a special format like a square (though you can if you’d like).

Some of the things from previous challenges might turn out useful for this particular challenge, since people have already collected things, or made moodboards, created fanmixes, or otherwise created aesthetics-and-feels things rather than art, fic, or podfic-type works.

I have not created these kinds of things, because I usually go with whatever has been settled up in the actual canon itself and evaluate it on whether I think it works or it doesn't, in relation to the story that's trying to be told, or the mood that's trying to be painted, or sometimes even whether or not those audio cues are helpful to the game, or whether they need to be changed in some manner or made greater so that a person can play the game. (Some of the without-sight runs of various games are pretty impressive, especially when it's a game where the person doing the without-sight run can point out the sound cues and things that are being used as a way of knowing where they are and what dangers are around them. I think that sound design has a lot of accessibility requirements to it, and good games should be ones where players without sight can play perfectly fine, and so can players without hearing. (Or, sometimes even players who are not using two hands to play the game.))

If I'm thinking about something like a fanmix, it's sometimes difficult because many of the characters that I think about have their own image songs and themes, and I evaluate them on their themes as selected by the people making them. It's different to think about characters and different songs for them, so I guess I should do this for a character in literature or something like that.

The most recent character on my mind is El Higgins, from Naomi Novik's Scholomance series, and although I've only made it through the first book for book club, as of this week, I guess I should try to put my hand to it. Here we go - listen - the music is all right, sometimes the video isn't the best.

  1. Lily Allen - Fuck You

  2. Gayle - ABCDEFU (angrier)

  3. Michael Jackson - Bad

  4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll

  5. dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill (De La Edit)

  6. Bloodhound Gang - I hope you Die

  7. <Tally Hall - ruler of Everything/li>
  8. Alient Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal

  9. Yasunori Mitsuda - Frozen Flame

  10. Nobuo Uematsu - Dancing Mad (Distant Worlds II version)

I think this works. Maybe some people who are Scholomance fans can tell me otherwise. Or that I'm going to be hilariously right even more so when I get to the other books.

These were all cool. Wow I haven’t seen Michael Jackson in years and years. He was beautiful in that vid.
