Back to Part-Time Discordia!
Nov. 5th, 2004 11:37 pmAfter getting annoyed and moody at things like local proposals not turning out according to plan, I have been soundly kicked in the head by the Great Goddess of Chaos (she thought about kicking me in the nuts, but decided against it at the last second), and now I've got an idea or two of some things to do.
One could also attempt a reality crack. Optimism is good. Especially when needed.
Of course, there's always the occult route. I recommend his other writings, as well. He may have even helped me find a title for my thesis. Somedays you find the weirdest inspirations...
Speaking of Eristic inspirations, I was in the Graduate Library today, reading the opinion column for the Michigan Daily. More specifically, this article, which is worth a read anyway, when someone asks me whether I've read the article. I say that I'm just getting to it, and he introduces himself as the writer of said article. He wants my opinion on it, so I read it through, say I like it, think he's got a good idea, and say that he should talk to his local Discordians, anarchists, etc. Since he just arrived, he wasn't quite sure whether the Discordians were a specific group (HA! As if...) and he said that it might be cool if we could plan the first costume-day for Nov. 16. I could use it as an excuse to pull out the Sorceror's Apprentice Hat again, or if I had the inclination, I could do a glamourbomb. I just need the wings for it, really, but I don't know of anywhere that would have such things. Maybe I'll have to poke around a bit. We'll see how far it spreads, if at all.
So with much work accomplished, my thesis possibly needing a redefinition of focus and in-depth study, putting what I thought to be tangential up to the front, I'm headed off to bed. I still haven't decided whether I want to try and play Ultimate tomorrow. Considering that I can't play football, it's probably going to be a no in favor of doing more Thesis work.

Date: 2004-11-06 11:05 am (UTC)... just a shame it is so badly articulated. IMO it is easier to say that, if you want to see a different reality* than that percieved by the masses, you need to develop the skill to not only question but to metaquestion, to detect when your perception of reality is shaping the questions you are asking and create new questions to fight it. And if questions are not helping, use nonsense or "impossibilities": a random attack may reveal the crack you need to get through (hence the koans of Zen, the chaos and apparent silliness of Discordianism and so on)
* of course the ultimate idea is that this is a search for The Truth. Which, IMO, is impossible to obtain. Blame Godel Again.
