Not quite Humpday, but close. Exceedingly close.

The Charlie Brown Christmas Special was on. It's too early for this sort of stuff. I want to see it near Christmas, you stupid punks. I have half a right to go and complain, but I'd be shouted down by the PTC, probably, because it's wholesome programming of some sort. Nevermind that it's become a sort of sick parody of what it intended to drag across - it's anti-commercialism, so what happens to it? It gets trotted out, with advertisements, a thousand times during the season. It becomes commercial instead of fighting it. It's the wrong kind of irony to be promoting.

What would J.C. do about it... well, here's a guess. Well, to his motivations, at least. If nothing else. I don't think, somehow, that he'd be in favor of suicide clubs, but somedays that's what the militant wings of religion look like.

Yesterday was a little on the bleak side, I know. It might count as an occasional bout of depression (which supposedly runs in the family), but it may be a side effect of the mind, quieted and unfettered by the apparent need to be doing something else. Perhaps those faced with free time fear it these days, rather than enjoy it. That's scary in and of itself. In my case, though, free time lets me read and think. Possibly both at the same time. Outwardly, anyway, things appear to be doing well. Classes and life aren't having major hiccups at the moment, and while I'll have debts to pay when I'm finished, hopefully, they won't be massive. Beyond that, there's an uncertainty that the degree will actually translate into a job of some sort, but with the way information and data are expanding, I would think there is a need for people with the kind of training I'm going for. But you never know until you get there.

It rained today, I might note. Not just a drizzle, but a downpour. And through a lot of it, I was thinking, "If the seasons were on track here, this would be an awesome snowstorm. I might be annoyed with it for different reasons, but it would be much prettier to watch." It rained for a good part of the day while I was in classes, too, so that was a pretty frequent thought. More useful for cultivating the right sort of Winter Festival spirit - you know, "Love and Peace" instead of "Hate and War". Of course, the tick is then extending all that beyond the Festival's span. That part we haven't figured out yet.

It's getting towards exam time. Hopefully, everything will turn out okay, and my brain won't melt trying to remember all the things it has seen for my Art History exam. So far, so good, though. Half the grade is in the books and it's good. The other half's the one I'm a little worried about, and that's in the final. Could use a good final there and for Greek Sport - the only finals I have, incidentally.

Next semester's shaping up to do well. I'll probably get more work hours (good thing - can use the money) since my schedule meshes nicely with other people's. It'll be nice having two days of class (depending on the Thesis slot, likely a Tuesday, it'll be three, technically, but the Thesis class will be the only one on Tuesday, so it does and doesn't count), so that I can goof off... err, get work done, properly.

To finish, a space-filling FF meme.

Favourite Playable Character: Dark Knight Cecil (FFIV), followed very closely by Paine (FFX-2)
Favourite Technology: Airships - most useful things ever.
Favourite Weapon: Quina's Fork (FFIX)
Favourite Limit: Omnislash/Renzokuken (FFVII/FFVIII) - something just says "cool" when you slice and dice in such a quick fashion.
Favourite Area(s): The Village of Monsters (FFIV)
Favourite Boss: Kefka. Best. villain. ever.
Favourite Airship: The Red Wings' ships are by far the most stylish of the bunch, and they're properly armed as well.
Favourite Magic System: FFVII's Materia system. Customizable to an insane degree, not really item dependent, and everyone can use any Materia they like.
Favourite World: FFIV's "Earth" / FFX's Spira
Favourite FMV: The opening sequence to FFVIII - good music, good moves, and it sets the mood better than any of the other games.
Favourite Non Playable Character: Matoya, Blind Witch. (FFI)
Favourite Music: I like a lot of tracks from a lot of the OST. No one favored over another, although I have a soft spot for FFVI's opening sequence.
Favourite Enemy: The Dancing Calbrena Dolls (FFIV). The first time I fought them, I beat them as Cal and Brena, but I've never been able to duplicate the feat. I beat it as Calbrena, but every time, Cecil-Paladin dies.
Favourite Game in Series: FFIV. As good as VI is, the World of Ruin and the ascent (descent?) to Kefka doesn't quite stack up with fighting Zeromus at the core of the moon. Or maybe it's the Golbez and Kain factor.
Favourite Summon: The Magus Sisters (FFX), followed closely by Shiva (multiple games).
Favourite Magic: Ultima! And Full-Life, on the other side of the coin.
Favourite mini-game: Tetra Master from FFVIII, even though I had to play it for most of the game with the Random rule, which made things a major pain.
Favourite WEAPON [From VII]: Ruby Weapon - only one that looked like it could do the job it was supposed to. Plus, fighting it one-on-one made it much cooler.
Favourite Job Class: Dark Knight / Black Mage. Magic looks cool, does damage, and affects all at proper levels. The Dark Knight, just because he (she!) looks cool and can use the HP-sacrificing move to good effect.
Favourite Crystal: The Crystals of FFIV - the Elements and the Shadow Crystals.
Best Male Character: Cid, whatever game he's in.
Best Female Character: Lulu (FFX), Paine (FFX-2), Rydia (FFIV). All three demonstrate considerable power, don't depend on anyone for validation, and are able to stand independently, without any angsty sort of weaknesses.
Worst Character: Yuna (FFX) and Rinoa (FFVIII). These are basically the same character - no strength of their own, trying to be tough, but really softies just waiting for the hero to turn them to mush. They're not even good supporting characters or love interests to the hero, but the plot makes them indispensable to itself.
Favourite Creature: Moogles! Fuzzballs and all.
Favourite Legendary Weapon: Masamune. Big freaking sword, does lots of damage even in inexperienced hands. Good stuff.
Worst Plot Twist: Ultemecia, and Rinoa being the witch-successor. See above in "Worst Character Ever", because it bound a bad character to the central point of the second plot. Although the "I beat one bad guy, only to find out he's a pawn of something greater" bit is a little overused... it's pretty consistent throughout the games.
Favourite Ending: FFVI. While long in sequence, it actually does make some sort of sense and tie things together well.
Worst Ending: FF VIII. The 'lost in time, only to be led out by the love interest I really didn't want to admit to' is not a good way to end things. Would have been better just for them to drift through time, to the orphanage, and then return to Balamb without the angst.
Favourite Main Character: Cecil (FFIV) wins by default, almost because I don't like any of the other ones very much.
Most Original Character: Red XIII. Although Quina puts up a good fight.
Favourite Main Character Rival: Golbez, FFIV. As the minor villain for most of the game, he puts up a convincing display of competence that many of the other rivals lack, and while he's evil, he never goes insane or does things out of pure malice, like Kefka or Seifer or Kuja.

And that's a wrap. Two big entries in a row. I hope I'm not boring you guys with the stuff I'm writing.

I've got it on DVD, I watch it when I decide its time and ignore all other playings. I can't stand watching it on tv anymore, the commercials get to me.
