Tomorrow, for at least some part of the day, since I have no work, I'll be looking for work. 'Specially since the windfall of hours that I had this week and last isn't going to be around any more. So here's hoping that I can get hired on to something that will either do the job of financing itself or graft on to my already current job and keep me in the black. As much as I love umpiring, it's not nearly enough to make do for anything other than pocket money.

I sketched at the desk today - I only drew one thing that I thought was worth inking, as I was just leafing through the polykarbon tutorials. My style's already different, but there was some good stuff that came out of the doodle sessions. It would appear one of my major weaknesses is in body construction. Perhaps once I can get my figures to look right, I'll go for some other stuff. Even so, it was actually somewhat encouraging that not everything that I put on paper looked like crap to my eyes. Patience and practice are probably my watchwords now. That, and a little more on the tutorials bit. Learning how to draw stuff will take a while, that's for sure. Maybe I should take some classes. Then perhaps I could get into the greeting card industry. (Movie) And if I wanted to make a career out of it, maybe I should consider Boy Love comics as a subject matter, since they're apparently popular...

...then again, maybe not. Might get the wrong crowd reading them. ([sarcasm]I'm sure TK and Welah will Love that link... [/sarcasm]

...but first things first. The basics, then the dreams of grandeur. After all, wouldn't want to be the guy who dies of a heart attack after bicycling the country.

...and it appears that I probably won't be able to sell in Texas, after they get done banning sexy cheerleading. Now, tell me, if the football team sucks, but you've got a good attractive cheer troupe, who's going to sell more tickets? I'd make a crack about the Mark of the Beast, but it would appear that it's probably 616, not 666 that was the thing, and so Apocalypse already happened. We are living in Hell. This proves it.

Perhaps if I were to meditate on the matter, I'd find a way around it. In case mediation's not enough, maybe I could try neurohacking. After all, it's my own brain, right?

Whee! A reason to invite you to my place!

I have an enviable stack of books and art-related materials that I am more than willing to share, or sit around with another artist because I never see them in person, it seems. Or they're hostile like that chick t'other night. I compliment her prolific sketchness and she gives me nothing to work with. So I stop talking to her.

Anyhow, we've finally gotten the place almost clean, so after the NY trip I am going on...you should come over. We'll cook. And do the art thing. You can meet Ed. It'll be cool.

I don't like labels, and I don't go in for that "you must be this tall talented to be an artist" crap. If you have the desire, and plan to do the hard work, and are willing to accept criticism for what it is (people further along the path giving you a hand up), then you are an artist.

If you want something to whet your appetite, I will send you to a place that I spent a lot of time while I still had it to spend.

WetCanvas! is a newbie-friendly mentoring and encouraging website about art. People will look at your posts, tell you what they like about them...and if you have a little luck, they'll tell you what's wrong. ;) They have daily, weekly, and monthly challenges to get you out of your comfort zone and truly creating. :) The mods are really cool, and ueber talented. Just don't go into the flame forum--er, the discussion zone.

They also have live chat! You can meet people all over the world.
