Another day, another $.02 (after taxes)
May. 19th, 2005 10:59 pmA little sketching done today - picked out Ozy to torment again and sketched a couple poses of him, one on a post-it and the other on one of our slips. They scanned relatively clean, however, and so there was very little need for digital ink other than to clean away the artifacts. I'm really kinda pleased at the second one, which didn't have me looking so much and trying to match source image so exactly - my hand was a little looser and things turned out really well. Guess I just like the style as something to practice with. Of course, trying a little other freesketching didn't turn out so well. Admittedly, I was trying to draw sprite-approximations, so I might not just be getting the idea right yet. I might be convinced to find a way to put up a sketch if someone asks, but it's still really copy-style rather than anything innovative yet. Gotta learn somehow, though.
Was going to do umpiring tonight in some rather chilly weather, but the weather got sufficiently rainy that the night's activities were cancelled. That's normal for Mai here - I'm just glad it's getting into the monsoon season, instead of hanging around in the blizzard season. Watched a little more animation - closing episodes of a couple of series, which will probably mean that my hard drive space opens up by a few gigabytes (I overheard one of my bosses say today - "Remember when a gigaflop was serious computing power?" and chuckled) only to be sucked down again when new series become available.
Might be road tripping tomorrow, depending on how things work (or don't). But those who have a need of reaching me can. Anyway, that's the matter of it for tonight. Oh, yeah, the new .hack game (.hack//G.U.) supposedly has a trailer out - watched that. I want to see and hear a bit more before I make a judgment one way or another, but if this trailer's indicative, this story's going to be a lot darker than the other one. We'll wait and see.
Watched the Pistons-Pacers game tonight - last one for Reggie Miller, for those keeping track. In the last segment, with the game pretty well put away, Miller comes off the court in between a couple of foul shots. To give him a proper send off and let the crowd acknowledge him, Larry Brown (the Pistons coach) calls a timeout. That's a classy move right there. Lets the fans give the applause they should, and Larry and the team come out to center court to join in on the applause. Good stuff, there. Those sorts of things are cool to watch.
And no, I haven't yet gone to see the movie. I'm thinking matinee some time this weekend, so I can get the cheap price. Possibly someplace nice, too. But I'll see it soon enough - then I don't have to worry about the spoiler-laden mines being dropped around the friends list. I'm not going to mysteriously not see this one. (Like what happened with the Matrix movies) Some days it helps to be a college student.
