There's a lot to run through today - I spent a some part of it wandering aruond various parks, and other parts of it wandering around trying to see what I can gather about any financial aid I might have received for graduate school. It appears that I didn't get anything that's scholarship. I joke about being too white, too male and too middle class to get anything from such a diverse university as Michigan, but that's all it is - a joke. There are more than enough people coming in who probably deserve those scholarships. I guess I'll have to have a hack or two at either means of financing my education - I may have to seriously consider taking on a teaching job, possibly one with enough of a fraction to cover tuition. Its really good, I suppose that I've managed, all told, to get four years of undergraduate education for about the price of one year of graduate studies. However, the cost of education is still ludicrous. At this level, it's just fucking insane. So I'm slightly pissed off and slightly full-blown panicked about the debts I'm incurring. There had better be a well-paying job at the end of this tunnel that I like so that I can pay back all of my creditors.

But, there is mirth to be had. [livejournal.com profile] wicked_wish shows off her latest contribution to kids say the darnedest things. Of course, sometimes the adults one-up them.

Unfortunately, that may be all the mirth to be had. First, the Supreme Court ruled that a city can take private property under eminent domain and then give it to private developers to do what they wish with it. Anyone else seeing the hands of the Illuminati at work?

Especially since they seem to be building a database of young people to assess their military recruitment feasibility. So more targeting of those least likely to resist the lure, huh? And they'll probably need it, since Iraq is probably turning out more terrorists than it was before. So the current number of those killed (1724 as of the post) is only going to get higher. As the maraschino cherry on top of this political sundae, they might pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting flag-burning and other forms of "desecration." First it'll be something that a few people use, then it'll be something more people use, then they'll just say you can't talk nasty about the government, and those who do will disappear into the night. Ingsoc approves, as does the Soylent factory conglomerate.

An addendum to the bit about pharmacists being able to refuse prescriptions - the docs want the authority to fill them themselves because the pharmacists aren't filling them and aren't sending them to places that will. Instead, they appear to be behaving like overbearing fundamentalists. *sigh*. They're everywhere, or so it seems. Two years more in college (at approximately the price of my undergraduate per year), and then I can consider the idea of moving to another country. Of course, it will be near the end of the Bush second term by then, so perhaps the temptation will be to wait until the next Presidential election to see if the situation improves, and if not, to take my degree and go elsewhere. Joe the Liberal Eagle might be disappointed with me, though.

Perhaps, though, a good dose of lazy is what the country needs right now.

Finally - Take the MIT Weblog Survey.

Take the MIT weblog survey, hmm? I want to see what they do with this data. Maybe BT will get to see some of it on her trip out there.

Addendum - San Antonio wins series 4-3 with good play and some possibly questionable calls going against the Pistons.

I understand your point. It is a pure joy to go to the most expensive public univerity in the US. I owe 15K and I was here for less than two years.
I'll emial you tomorrow on the umich system to talk about next week. My proposal is that we do the same next week as we did this if Edna approves the whole week. If not, I'll want one of your days to even things out.
Many are the joys of being broke. I love it...
