...in a startling turn of events... well, okay, not really, but it appears that the possibility that Canada would ascend to the bronze podium for legalizing gay marriage upset Spain enough that they went and did it themselves. So Spain is the third country to legalize gay marriages. It's an (officially) heavily Catholic country, too. I wonder what Ratzinger will do about this. It's also another slap in the face of the United States, a place that purports to be the "land of the free". Free from what, is what we're beginning to wonder.

As the matter of Iraq continues to spiral out of hand (farther out of hand?), some of the blog-types are making predictions as to who will get the blame for why things collapsed. One seems to think "The Liberals" (as if there ever was such a thing) will take the brunt of the attack, making them not much more than terrorists. And I suspect it'll happen right about the time someone needs an election. So expect the War Machine in 2008 at the very latest, if not in 2006.

These are the same people who will take the following explanation of what happens when a flag burns as The Truth, and wonder why we don't see it that way. (Maybe it's because we're too busy consulting our copies of the Homosexual Agenda?)

So BoardieCon (a gathering of the College Roomies From Hell!!! forum regulars) is going on right now. I heard whispers of water weaponry being deployed. So I think all of those people would be very interested in a Do-It-Yourself 85 psi water rifle. Not much in artistic style, perhaps, but effective weaponry. The artisticness can probably be added on.

The world of news also notes that Lucky Charms may not indeed be "magically delicious". There is a certain part of me that snickers at that, of course. Of course, it also laughs that my cereal choices seem to have gone less towards Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs and more toward "adult" cereals at my present age. I must be getting old, or something. Well, I'll be getting older soon. Not necessarily wiser, but we can't all be perfect. Although, now that I think about it, according to at least a couple of philosophies, we are all perfect or can become that way... should probably brush up on my Buddhism again.

I talked a bit about my experiences in marching band today to a group of seemingly eager fifth-graders (might have been sixth and seventh graders, too) as the rain raged outside. The rain continued to go for a while - but I did get some banking done in a lull. These brownouts are continuing, however - and they're a bit of an annoyance to someone who leaves his machine on to take messages for him. Then I whittled the day away playing a game on an emulator. As well as being introduced to a new group of music and such. My days are just packed, believe me. And my work situation has resolved itself! I still have a job. Woot. Just had to be patient that things would work out and they did... even though they've waited until the very last second or so to do it. Still, things proceed apace. Tomorrow, perhaps I put on my traveling show and go elsewhere. But for now, I'm content to just roll along.

Well, a Con for CRFH might explain why it wasn't updated today...I have no clue why I wasn't notified of this event, as I love CRFH with a passion. Water weaponry!

2006? I think a lot of people I know are hoping Shrub won't last that long.

Well, a Con for CRFH might explain why it wasn't updated today...
Nope, the con has nothing to do with that at all. Do you know Maritza is pregnant, the baby is due within the next few weeks and she's had a pretty troublesome pregnancy? Pretty much all the comic gaps in the past few months are related to Mari taking time out because of tiredness or other problems related to the baby.

I have no clue why I wasn't notified of this event, as I love CRFH with a passion.
You'd need to keep an eye on the forum to hear about it, it's not an "official" con so there's no mention of the event on the main page - there have been several threads about it in the last few months in the Keenspot CRFH forum (http://forums.keenspot.com/viewforum.php?f=19) and several LJs, especially that of the current organiser [livejournal.com profile] aurora77

What sort of spec is the machine? If you can stretch to it I really would recommend trying to get a UPS with AVR (Belkin ones tend to be cheaper than APC and IME are as reliable in home environments) - even if the power doesn't go out, overpower and underpower events can reduce the lifetime of hardware and the AVR will prevent them, they also tend to have better surge protection than socket strip protectors provide.

Hrm, I'm no expert on US prices for such things but a quick look puts 550 to 750VA Office Series ones at between $50 and $70. You could probably scrape through with the 550 depending on your graphics card.
