Today was a good day, on balance. I did take a day off of work, but I helped Grandfather on Da's side celebrate fifty years of showing cattle at the local county fair. So that was reasonably fun, and in the while, I read through the .hack//A.I. Buster novel - very interesting, and worth reading only if you've got the rest of the story behind you. Also have read Genshiken v.2, and still very much like it - perhaps due to it's very nature. Enough of the humor in it is accessible to me... and besides, you can watch the personalities bounce off each other. It's good writing.

On balance, I had a "D'oh" moment, thinking that my umpiring shift started at 9:15... when it started at 8:15. Since it had started at 9:15 the previous night, I thought the timing was similar. When I got there, and then thought about it for a bit, I realized I was in the wrong. D'oh! Oh, well, still got one game in, so it wasn't a total loss, and they were prepared for me anyway, as I had said that I wasn't supposed to be in town anyway. But I missed out on Twelfth Night because I couldn't find a sub. Sometimes a commitment to duty gets to you.

I'm also juggling the matters of tuition - the loans are nice, but I suspect they'll eat me alive if I let them continue like this... for four years of undergraduate pricing, I'll get about two years of graduate pricing. So I might get out with my goal of one to 1.5 x median salary, all told, if I'm lucky. That's what I consider "acceptable", meaning "I'll live like a college student for the time I pay off my loans with" and I'll be done with it. Of course, there's the chance that I might incur other expenses, like significant others and children, in that ten-year window. One can only guess at the future. Although I've been told that I'm cute and worth talking to by a lot of people, so perhaps there is reason for hope and confidence after all. (Put the frying pan down, Weirdo.)

Yeah, through a client, but it's not th eclient's fault. It would appear that my liking of grammatical correctness broke the meme. Once I took the quotation marks off of the Captain's phrase, everything fixed itself. Growl, snarl, and rant about idiocy of programming.
