I seem to be having difficulty with my home internet. I installed a second hub (so my internet connection passes through two hubs to make it to my computer) and now it thinks that there's a cable not connected. So now it's time to do what I do best - look around Google, try a few solutions, perhaps even bang my head in frustration occasionally, but I will make it work. Heh, heh, heh... err, if anyone happens to know why this problem is happening, let me know.

While you ponder such things, let me produce some other things. Whether true or meaningless, realize this: If you create a program, be sure you know how it will be used.

In addition, some fear that digital cameras will prevent future generations from knowing about our culture.

Then, of course, there are the Tek-Gnostics. Taoists of high techonology, I guess. After all, some things stay unchanging, even though they change all the time.

A quote worth mentioning: Q: What did Malaclypse the Younger say to the hotdog man? A: Make me one with everything!

And finally, but not unsurprisingly,

You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.
Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.

Problem with internet - solved. After finally figuring out what the package directions meant and a little research on-line, something clicked in my head, and now my connection will work flawlessly from here on out.

The problem? Well, the device being used takes inputs from both computers at once. So far, so good, right? The problem is - if one of the computers is off, it gets no signal, and so the connection technically drops out. But only long enough for it to go over to the other side and say, "Hey, connection here!" So it does go on-again, off-again, until you pull the computer that's not on out of the circuit. And then it's happy. It works just fine because it's getting signal and requests from one side and doesn't have to worry about the other one.

Another case of RTFM, I guess. Which means the money I spent getting some crossover cable and an RJ45 extender is wasted. Although I may keep the parts anyway, because both of those things could turn out to be useful at some other location in my life. Or I may give them to someone else, like my sister, in case she should need them. Which may not be a very far-fetched possibility indeed. Happy college present, or something.

So my stress level has once again returned to normal (which is just under explosive, I think, unfortunately) and I will inform my roommate of the requirements for success on the internet for both of us when he returns. Le sigh. It's always an unorthodox solution when I'm involved, isn't it?

Well...

I sleep solo tonight for the last time. From tomorrow on, I've got my roommate, for better or for worse. But by the weekend, everything should be looking pretty good. I'll probably have an idea on what to keep and what to send away with regards to the few tubs that are still sitting here in the room. I think my cookware's going home for the most part. There's more than enough dishes to go around, from the looks of things, as well, so I might only keep a small portion of them around. It looks like it's going to be a "fend for thyself" sort of thing for now. Maybe that will change, maybe not.

Switching gears, more work tomorrow. If I can, I might drop by the hall tomorrow and see if I can pick up an instrument to practice with before band week begins. Might help with my audition. Might not. You never know, and with the large freshman class coming in, I will be most interested to see how the challenges work this year. (I have no illusions about not being challenged for the whole year. I expect it to happen.)

But, I have put up my art around my walls (and boy, did I put up a lot of art.) Perhaps I'll grab one of the digital still cameras from work tomorrow and take a picture of the room. But only after everything's put in the order it's supposed to. Then you can see just how much of a messy person I am. Those that know me have probably already experienced this.

Oh, well. Time for rumination from behind my own eyelids. Perhaps tomorrow is the day I learn of my own enlightenment. I guess I need to laugh more, because I feel a bit away from it at the moment.
