I'm, well, going home for the weekend, probably - my sister wants to go crack heads at the Lions of Michigan All-State Band rehearsal this weekend - we'll see what happens with Saturday and Sunday. If I get inspired, I might write the last of my shot papers. If not, I'll probably play video games. There's also the animation club meeting on Saturday - if sister's not back, then I'll have to find transport to and from the gig. Not a major problem, really. I'll probably stay there most of the weekend - but now that the major project is finished, I can get panicky over the minor ones. If I go pester the prof for one of them on Monday, I think I'll be in good shape.
Today was also a very good day. As it turns out, one of my favorite things to watch at convention - Anime Hell - has a website and a few links sprinkled about to some of the segments they've played in the Hell segment. No Heino, unfortunately, but there are a few spread links around to one of the great cornerstones of the Hell experience - Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown! Now all I need are a few of the fandubs, like Evangelion ReDeath and I'll be very happy. Today was a good day.
At work, however, I have a task of sorting screws into similar types, sizes, and threads. So I can indeed lament about how much I've been screwed. Luckily, my co-conspirators will probably help out with the sorting and stuff. I did do work today - I worked more on a paper, which I was going to e-mail myself, but then forgot to attach the file for. Sent the mail, forgot the attachment. No biggie. 'S not done, nor is it due until the 19th. I have a little time to make it good.
If you want to get philosophical, there's this piece and its responses about how we're becoming a "pancake" people. In my opinion, though, the fact that librarians still exist, as well as grandfathers, mothers, and bosses telling stories of their lives, says we're not going to be pancakes. Things like facts may be more accessible to more people, but the things that build the richness of experience - stories - are not fully reproducible in any electronic medium or paper volume. So I suspect that we'll still have those deep people, but it won't be because they hold lots of facts and figures, it's because they'll be able to weave stories around those facts and figures and bring them to life. Or it's because they'll have experiences in their lives that are unique. Like talking with the dolphins. Or something.
If you want to be political, hear someone rant about Libertarians thinking corporations are people.
However, if technology is your bent, then perhaps we'll be seeing super-large hard drives soon - in tiny packages. Mmm, terabytes on tiny drives - that'll make anyone's MP3 collection look really good. And probably really big. I'd think about buying one as a backup device, and another as a portable hard drive to take between computers so that I can basically recreate my home system wherever needed. That's a nice thought. Of course, for people who have to keep track of sensitive data on their classified hard drives, well... the job doesn't get any easier. Suckers. That kind of job must be on par with the guy who designed the robo-urinal. I don't know many gents who would be comfortable with the idea of their urinal having hands.
Well, I'm either going to read a bit and go to bed, or go to bed. I was going to do something earlier tonight, but I got wrapped up in my life here that I forgot - silly absentmindedness. Luckily, since it wasn't a mission-critical thing, I can let it slide, even as I complain bitterly to myself about being absentminded in a very bad way. I guess I'm just going to have to write everything down in a daybook when I schedule it and then consult today's schedule many times a day just to make sure I don't forget anything. It sucks when absentmindedness manifests itself.
