Another event-filled day.
Jul. 8th, 2005 12:57 amThings got off to an interesting start Stateside, as it happened about lunchtime in London. Explosives were set off in the Underground and a bus exploded. A subset or affiliated group of al-Qaeda claims responsibility. The British people seem not to have responded yet, instead focusing on healing their wounds. Pursuance of justice hopefully takes the forefront, and not revenge, and we also hope that the governments of Britain and America don't decide to use the incident to further repressive schemes. In a sense, they've seen what hasty action has done. So perhaps they'll be a bit more cautious.
God could not be reached for comment. Perhaps it was too soon after his latest interview. His office did make mention that God does not consider himself affiliated with parties that circumvent his clearly-defined rules of association. Draw your own conclusions.
It very well could be that these people have something that we would consider messed up in the head. But that assumes that we're normal. As 2 has noted (moving somewhere in the world - 2's on DRT today), we're not the best judges of "normal." I wonder what the mindset is of someone who does those things. I'm sure it can be imagined and explored. If we spent sufficient time trying to figure out why these things happened, rather than just demonizing a THEM, in opposition to US, we could probably gain a greater understanding of what it is that we're doing wrong. Things like terrorist attacks are drastic responses to situations. Figure out what makes the situation, and if it's preventable and feasible, why not get rid of the situation that draws people into the recruiting camps?
I think, however, it is best said in a picture. Miss Cavell, if you will?
Aside from that speculation (and the cringe to see if anyone in the Christian Conservative Nuthouse decides to use this as more fuel to heat the fires of its agenda), there's some other things that are in my head rattling around and asking to be put down on ethereal paper.
Someone asked a poignant question in the soulbonding community - if I could have the characters I refer to as my bonds gain a physical existence in this plane, would I want them to? There were good points and bad points to having them exist independently. If we still shared our mental links it would be more preferable to existing as separate entities, but that could get us into trouble if one of us were experiencing strong emotion. We settled on a best solution that would allow them to manifest physically when they chose to or needed to, but otherwise could still exist in the headspace. I think that if my current bonds were given reality, I'd end up creating new ones... and the process might start all over again. As interesting as it would be to have them manifest physically, I think I'd be more comfortable with them staying inside for at least part of the time.
Beyond that, there's this gallery of images, which carries the title "Suibtle Lesbianism in Female Sports". With the caption - "This is the story of what women's sports are all about, and the hardcore driving lesbian rage that resides within every successful female athlete." The images, however, are mostly of tennis and sand volleyball players. The tennis players come from many different nationalities and customs - even in the images where the two might be kissing, it could be a customary gesture of friendship and respect. The sand volleyball players are often celebrating victories or giving advice to each other - in both cases, there is certainly no "driving lesbian rage" that I can see. I'm rather annoyed by the gallery and caption - it's this sort of attitude that needs to be taken out back and shot. Repeatedly. Just because they're playing sports doesn't make them lesbians. While I can see where some people might get that idea, it's a mode of thought better suited for years well behind our present day.
Heh, heh, heh... cool. If you ever wonder where Beavis and Butt-head hang out for all this time that they've been off MTV, now you know.
And the incidental tid-bit for tonight - having a lightning bolt come crashing down near your house is definitely something that will make you take in a few breaths. They're scary.
