Hi, kids! It's Hump-Day!
Jul. 21st, 2005 01:08 amThus, getting over the hump might take longer than expected. However, I was social tonight. This is good - keeps me from starting to believe that all my friends are at the computer. I also made the mistake of making an absolute statement, which brought about rain for myself and all the others affected. Sorry about that, kids.
Unfortunately, it's a black day for Star Trek Fans. Scotty was finally beamed up himself. He did Canada very proud. Canadians also did themselves very, very proud by becoming the fourth country to legalize homosexual marriages. Go, Canada. We still need to import some of your progressives to give us an actual liberal party, and one that might actually propose some liberal ideas.
If I wasn't already suspecting the universe (or maybe just Eris) likes to mess with my head, out of the articles at DRT today, the theme seemed to be one of how control is inflicted on the weak-minded. And a few ways of thinking around it or breaking it. A hypnotist points out how he uses our own natural willingness to be sheep to do some interesting tricks with our heads. Check out his explanations.
And then, a rather interesting thought - Why Do You Work So Hard? I've thought about what the country might become like if we took European-style siesta breaks and vacation months and such. I think we'd be better for it, even if the economists and the Puritan Ethics people swear up and down that the country will fall apart. They might think that if we let people have lunch breaks and vacations, they might start thinking it's okay to let gays marry, since they'll be more relaxed in general. (Hey, it's a stretch, but we already have people who go beyond that - you know, people burning popular children's books because they have fantastic content and that.)
Okay. I think that covers it. I might be playing Art Fair Bingo tomorrow, so if you're around, say hello. If you recognize me, that is...
