One more day...
Nov. 6th, 2005 12:19 am...and then the madness is done for another year. Sort of (after all, there's always post-con work to be done and the preparations for the next year).
I still also have that paper due on Thursday. I'm hoping to get my engines in gear and be able to make that appear at the latest on Tuesday, in time to be done on Wednesday. Of course, that then turns toward bearing down on the other assignments that are going to be due a couple weeks after that, and then again a couple weeks after that. If I make it to the middle of December with my life and sanity still intact, then I'm clear for the rest of the semester. Which will be a whole half-month off. But I might be able to unwind myself well enough from just that so I can take on another semester. They keep telling me it gets better.
Out of the OOC archives, we get a gem from the Archie universe. Ever wonder what Betty the Goth might look like? Or what Philosopher Dogs might be like? (Think Tarantino movie interspersed with philosophical treatise. And guns. Lots of guns.)
Moving back within the bounds of sanity, but on things that might make people think you were crazy, check out gas-to-electric car hackers. Change over your engine to an electric. If you've got someplace where you can fill up on the juice regularly, then you might want to consider the idea.
And then striking coldly at the heart of truth, observe this. Growing up in the culture of fear. The media sells parents on the idea that everyone is out to get their child, that the world is full of predators and evil people (and especially on the Internet) who are just waiting for them to stop looking for a moment so they can steal, rape, abuse, and kill your children. The parents buy it. What are the kids left with? They can't go anywhere, real or virtual, without being watched and judged. With so many people telling them they're worthless, and to sit down and shut up, is it any wonder they start tuning you out?
The one that's dangerous is the one that doesn't look like it. But if you took a little time out to get to know her, he'd tell you about her problems. He'd think you were great if you actually listened. You've got good examples of what happens when the kids aren't paid any attention to - "star-crossed lovers" is a curse, not a blessing, if you think about it.
Do think about it.
