Was not accosted by any grossly overt public displays of affection on [livejournal.com profile] tinchen's holiday. Was not subjected to overly sickly sweet sappiness. Survived, I have.

I put down a bit of a riff today - although I suspect it didn't actually survive for more than a few minutes. For the last couple days, one of the whiteboards in a classroom as been spouting the message "Avoid Thought" for one reason or another, with a "Damn straight!" underneath it. So after my morning course, I thought that it needed to be made accurate. So I made it say "Avoid Thoughtcrime" and added the Party slogan underneath, along with "A friendly reminder from MiniTrue and the Students for an Orwellian Society." By the time I had returned for the second class of the day, however, some thoughtcriminal had erased the entire thing.

This is a question I'm sure many have posed while looking around at the country and its religious component: What happened to America's Jesus? Certainly quite the component of the populace is looking around and wondering what happened. Especially when some of those same professors of faith are getting pre-emptive injunctions about distributing religiously-themed messages before any form of censorship even happens. I suppose one could view this as an extension to the War on Christmas idea, and the Poor Oppressed Christians mindset.

In politics, the President may do best to concede the argument on several of his sticking points - since the American Bar Association is objecting to his warrantless spying. If the ABA says you've gone too far, you've probably been beyond the pale for a long time now. There's more rumbling that Guantanamo Bay is really a torture center, at least according to UN reports. The outing of a CIA agent in potential retaliation for a bad op-ed may have helped to contribute to the situation in Iran by reducing the capability of intelligence agents to monitor proliferation and other segments in Iran. Domestically, without much fanfare, the President bulled ahead and implemented his own Social Security plan into the budget. Ever since this Presidency began, there's been a lot of misdirection, sleights-of-hand and probably more than a few outright fibs. He's getting very practiced at this. Of course, it never huts when you've got people being investigated for sedition for expressing their discontent with the government's policy.

Trivia for the night - What's the first personal computer? Might be older than you think.

Also, buts of interest - a website about grapefruit's name has a slangy connection in Vietnam, so it's been blocked. Because, you know, the Internet is for porn.

Tragedy for the night, though - it's been confirmed that Andreas Katsulas, who I know as G'Kar on Babylon Five died of lung cancer. I thoroughly enjoyed the G'Kar character when he was on - both when dealing with Londo and in dealing with the things that set themselves on him, like being a spiritual leader. His voice was the thing I remember the most, and not having it around anymore means I'm going to have to go get B5 just so that I have a memory. And that's the last thing for tonight. Sorry to be a depressor.
