Weekend, here we come.
Mar. 18th, 2006 02:10 amHit writer's block on paper-writing (yes, I know, they're not due for at least another month, but I have a draft of one coming due the 28th and
annaonthemoon is visiting the weekend before, so better to get a jumpstart on it than laze about.) The one that has the draft due first, though, is the one I'm having the most trouble trying to make work out. I guess I don't know enough about what actually goes into the making of a system that can process and model large amounts of sales data... and certainly not enough to describe its construction and cost to someone else. That's the majority of what this paper is supposed to do - show off the thing I want to build, price it out and show the advantages and disadvantages.
The other paper is about trying to find deliberate and inadvertent consequences to library service because of the passage of USA PATRIOT. I feel a little more comfortable about being able to find enough to make the requisite length and interest on it. Procrastinated on them both by going bowling - free bowling down at the lanes, thanks to some sponsorships from the student government. Had a good starting game - above average, one turkey, and then a bad second game - below average, but at least made it to three digits.
Although today I was absentminded - I did the work that was due today last week, and then forgot to print it off to bring it to class. Luckily, the TA said to just e-mail it. Whew. Must remember to print assignments after finishing them. Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle the weekly assignment that I have now, just to get things moving and not think about the major papers.
Have to set an alarm so that I'm not sleeping when the landlady comes tomorrow to show the place off to prospective renters. Apparently, this means I'm supposed to make my room "spotless", according to one of the housemates. I laugh, simply because there's no way that's possible without additional storage units... plus my desk and surrounding area function better when things are within functional space rather than organized space. I'd look messy even if things were clean. But I did pick up some stuff off the floor and herd other things into closets and corners and shelves. If someone's pissy about it, they can be so. I'll clean the place when I move out, and then someone can see what it looks like clean.
Have, from time to time, considered constructing a "privileged" filter among the friends for those occasions where I wish to muse and get input, but do not wish to open it up to the general populace, nor necessarily the entirety of one's friendslist. Every time I think about constructing such a thing, however, the quandary of who should be on it and who should not, or who would want to be on it, and who would not, is rather difficult. The most elegant solution to date that I have found is imply to ask all of you whether or not you would be interested in such a thing, and then make decisions from there. This is not to say that such a thing will actually be constructed at any point in the near or far future. Most likely, any issues that would actually make it to such a filter, I would be extraordinarily nervous about posting anywhere, anyway, and would probably rather talk it out in one-on-one conversations. That does, however, return to the original problem of trying to figure out who to talk to. I can still solicit your opinions, though, about whether or not you would want to be on such a privileged filter, and then work things out from there.
It's a bit confusing these days - classwork, trying to find summer positions for work, and all the other cognitive demands on me, involving social self, testing new interactions and groups, and trying to figure out on what parts of various newly-introduced scales one fits, if it's possible at all to find a good fit on it. Flailing about, but even worse than before, perhaps. At the same time, it feels like there's been progress made, since the complexity of the problem seems to have increased. Some solved, others appear - when those solve, then still others will appear. At this rate, I'll have to live forever, just to catch up.
(Oh, yeah, and apparently, I've been given some nice extra icons, Double what I had, so I'll probably be on the hunt to find some good ones to put into the rotation. Suggestions always welcome... maybe I should put up a tiny version of the M-Div logo, just so there's something else besides the FLEET eagle around...)
