Greetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-in post for 18 August 02019.

In things that I did that nobody is necessarily proud of me for, I successfully changed a toilet fill and float apparatus today, when the one that had been in there sprung a leak and did not do the thing it was supposed to any more.

In things that everybody should be way, way, proud of, The Archive of Our Own won a Hugo Award as the Best Related Work at the World Science Fiction Convention in Dublin this year. Which is a winner both for the technical prowess behind archiving, indexing, tagging, translating, and all of the data and metadata stuff that happens in such a way that the only time you notice it is when it's borked, but also for each and every one of the five million (and still counting) works currently archived there and the authors, commenters, bhookmarks, recs, and kudos involved in providing works and a limited community for them to participate with. Congratulations, me, you, and everyone else who has worked on or contributed to AO3. You are now a Hugo Award-winning fan-creator!

Put most of my effort today into finishing up a Giving-of-Grief post and starti9ng another, even when I was rudely interrupted by adulting requirements (see above).

Author reveals happened for an archive I participated in. Which means the work I contributed got its first kudo from one of my regular subscribers. (Yay!) I hope the work that revealed yesterday doesn't follow the same pattern, but you never know.

It's tally time! )
