That's right, only in a couple more days, The Jackson Anime and Manga Society presents to you, live from Rosemont, Illinois, The Freaking Suite II: The Wrath of Con! (with Christopher Walken) This is a one-time event, unlikely to be replicated at any point in the near, far, or any future. Those who are privileged to see it will remember it for a lifetime. We're all set on that, basically - supplies are laid in, snacks are purchased, and so for sustenance, we're good. However, our expedition to go get suitable materials for signing was less than fruitful. In fact, it was basically a bust. Tomorrow, though, or Thursday before we go, I hope to find what I really need. If that doesn't work, I may have to brave paying convention prices to get what I need. That's a little on the scary side, but if that's what it takes. (And, admittedly, I do have the funds for it, so it's not that bad. I'd just rather get it beforehand.) If all fails out, oh well. There's always next year.

Tomorrow, I get oriented on one of my jobs for the summer. Need to remember to bring along all my important papers. The second one should be good, too, and I just need to make sure they all get their paperwork in for me to get my credit on time. I'll deal with that.

Something interesting for those on Myspace: The TOS that are there may or may not be interpretable to give Myspace, and its parent company FOX/Newscorp, a license for exploitation on, and maybe beyond, the Myspace service. Like most things, this will probably be settled by lawsuit if/when such a clause is exercised. Simply a "be aware" sort of warning, even if it is never exercised. I do wonder, though, what might happen if something good and attractive to Newscorp should appear.

Something that may help to explain the reasoning behind the idea of karma, and which may be helpful to the study of the cosmos and metaphysics in general - The cosmos likes symmetry. Symmetry, in the mathematical sense, may turn out to be one of the fundamental principles of the universe's operation. In many myriad forms, keeping things working.

Although the winner for the night may be this Improv Everywhere Scene - 80 people descending on a Best Buy wearing clothing very close to the Best Buy uniform, helping customers or "shopping", and seeing just how the employees react to things. The employees seemed to be pretty okay with it. The managers and security, not so much. But another mission accomplished, even though the cameras weren't necessarily able to capture everything. I very much like this idea and its execution, and I think those employees will have a story to tell to their descendants.

That's the stuff from my side. Tomorrow, you might get a low-power update, but it might be Sunday night before you see me again. Take care and have fun.

Oh, man! That Best Buy gig is brilliant! I would so love to do something like that, but I doubt I ever will.

Regarding MySpace, I recently exchanged comments with someone saying that MySpace was there to make LJ users feel better about themselves, sort of like Furries and Goths. :-)

Everybody needs someone to look down on, so normal people can look down on Goths and science fiction/fantasy people can look down on the furries!

A great line from Mission: Impossible II. Sean Ambrose: "You know, that was the hardest part about having to portray you, grinning like an idiot every fifteen minutes."

I watched a special on Food Network a couple nights ago on the catering for M:I III, and every time they showed Tommy Boy, he was grinning like an idiot.

Well, when you hear about events where at DragonCon the Storm Troopers assault the Klingons by throwing tribbles at them, then you know that there is more than enough lunacy in the world.

There was a comedy song many years ago, I don't remember it except for one line from the chorus or refrain: "The black folks hate the white folks, and the white folks hate the red folks, and everybody hates the Jews!"

That's overstating it. The song was a mocking of prejudice. I don't look down on anybody (except people who believe "The South will rise again!" and faux cowboys. I look at furrys and goths with humor. If that's what they want to be, if that's how they want to define their life for now, fine. I probably won't take either too seriously as both have some major pretentions, so I'll find some humor there. I don't think I'm better than either (except in database programming :-)), so I'll let 'em be.

Goths exist to make Furries feel better about themselves.

Take an Improv class, it's a lot harder than you think to improvise and requires lots of practice, but when you get it, it's tons of fun.

It isn't so much that I want to improvise, I have a fast and facile mind, it's more of an opportunity issue. I live in the backwaters of New Mexico at 8600' in a town of 850 or so. These sorts of things aren't difficult to stage in places like NYC or LA, but when you get away from the megaplexes, executing something like this would become increasingly difficult.

A former co-worker in Phoenix belonged to a comedy troop that did Comedy Sports, sort of a more structured Whose Line Is It Anyway. Unfortunately I never got to see it.

Reading over it, it looks like MySpace just worded their TOS in a way that made it wound like they can swipe it. Really, looking over it, it seems to say that you're giving them the license to show the material on the site. What I mean is, you're giving them the right to show your MySpace page with the music and all that. They don't get any rights for sales or anything and if you take the material off the site the license goes away. You basically give LJ the same right to distrubute your material (I mean it's right up here were anyone with google can find it) they just word it differently.

I'd need to have someone with more patients and skill to go over the TOS to make sure but it does seem like the writer of that article was trying to make a temptest in a teacup. It's a very slanted view at MySpace and quite misleading.
