Learned a lot. Whether I remember any of it is another matter entirely. But hopefully through use it will recall itself. And the (ab)use starts on Monday, so whee and yay! Or something like that.

An argument for using enhancement to strengthen ourselves because of our weaknesses. Enchancements that may limit us could be good for us, possbily in helpign to design both the unlimited enhancements, and to figure out what the effects and limits of enhancements on things like the psyche are. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] sharpsight will have something to say about it.

A thought or two about beauty being in the eye of the beholder - the Sunday Times says that, as a whole, we're all prettier now, and that perhaps scandals involving old men and young women are motivated more by the looks than by the scandal. Ugly old man scores with young girl - that's "wrong", even more so if he's doing it with another guy's wife or girlfriend. Truth be told, though, most of us have enough sense not to expect a flawless body from ourselves or others, and so we find the gem of personality that captivates us. Or it might be the unique features of each person that holds our eye. Either way, beauty may be skin-deep, but what beauty is in reality is different than the fashion magazines.

An uninformed consequence of the digital, cellular, mobile-powered life: Ringxiety, or the hearing of phantom mobile sounds. A decidedly digital delusion, definitely. Do you suffer?

Crime, in all its myriad forms. Although, sometimes, a six-pack is all you need to discourage a robber. Would that such things might work on elected officials and corporations. For we find today that telecoms have been providing the NSA with the numbers that we have called and that have called us. Nothing admitted, yet, as to whether conversations or transcripts were recorded and also given to the NSA. (some Questions and Answers on the phone record collection program.) While the government claims to not be prying into our lives, with the track record going on here, there's a big question mark hanging around as to how much of that is truth, if it is at all. Especially when the NSA won't grant the Justice Department clearance to investigate them. And through all of this, the President skips happily along, asserting that he has the right to ignore the Constitution and laws that he signs whenever he damn well pleases. Not to mention the newest and most egregious voting machine security hole yet. And nothing on the horizon yet regarding censure, discipline, or impeachment. Such are the benefits of having your party in Congress. There also may be military recruiting abuses, like recruiters going after those who aren't mentally capable of the job. The gang graffiti thing says they're going after anyone who will sign the forms and take their chances they won't be killed.

The President also endorsed his brother as a potential Presidential candidate. It seems a fitting cap to such an angry explosion.

Speaking of explosions, although of a gaseous variety, there's murmurings of pig waste being used for biofuel. Possibly motor biofuel and or car biofuel. No word yet as to whether this is just murmurings or will be squished or will actually go anywhere.

Anyway, that's *zzzzzzzzzzzzz*

I used to hear phantom phones ringing, but that was because I worked at an answering service and heard ringing non-stop for hours on end. xD

First of all...Jeb Bush for Presisdent? I'm moving to Canada.

However, I do agree with Senator Lott that whoever the Republican party does put up against Hilary Clinton (provided it's not Jeb) WILL win over her. As much as I want to say "yay yay!" and rally around a female candidate.....1. I still don't think the country is quite ready for that, let's first get a better split in the senate first. and 2. It's Hilary Clinton. Although, I can only think of what amusement might come out of President's Brother vs. President's wife. HA!

I was working on a post about the NSA stuff when I deleted it to pst about the storm last night, so I never finished posting it. My concern is if this includes wireless phones as well. The article seemed to lean that way, but they don't mention it in the FAQ. Obviously I'm not calling terrorists, but I also don't think the government has aright to know who I call and how long stay on the phone for.

speaking of phones, i've been known to hear phantom ringtones emitting from myr purse, but usually that's because someone elses is going off. Although, with all my unique ringtones, it's hard to say someone else has mine, but still. If i hear any ringtone near me, i tend to reach for my phone just to check it out.

*amusement* Ah, England is still so far ahead of America in terms of equality.

Indeed.

And this is why I still dream of living in England.

George Bush can bite my ass! Hard! Jeb, too!

I'm saying that about that about a lot of people, these days. Methinks I'm fed just frickin' up.

I, of course, believe dubya when he says they're not prying into our private lives. Just like I believed him when he said there was no domestic spying going on, and just like I believed him when he said they weren't systimatically logging calls, and just like when he said that it wasn't that wide spread a program.

M) *smiles* Late, but weighing in.

'a completely worthwhile human enhancement': from whose point of view? From the point of view of those who have it and think that others should also have it, or from the point of view of those who don't have it and don't want it either?

As B is given to saying, 'cost-benefit analysis'. There may be advantages, there may be disadvantages: only the individual is suited to decide what is preferable for that individual. That being said: certainly, experiment. Learn more.

However, you can turn the situation on its head: treat the psychopaths as the normal, rational humans, and the limited humans as the ones with the different state of mind, unwilling to let go of it yet disadvantaged. It's the same thing, and neither group has any right to treat itself as any more trustworthy than the other.

N) Ringxiety: a triangle is used to signal the beginning of lessons/activities in this house. Often, I experience similar 'false alarms', and go to the landing and observe whether the triangle is swinging slightly to tell if it's just been rung or not. *nods slightly*

'Life would be unbearably bleak if we couldn't transcend the lumpen reality of our bodies'

Yes. It is. *works on transcending lumpen reality of body by means of plan to develop the technology to some day grow a new one, and in the mean time keeps searching for a female in the close physical area who pays more attention to ideas than appearances* [Disclaimer: excluding any and all other inhabitants of one's head, which would be unbelievably awkward.]

Also, America seems to be going down the toilet. Oy.
