Storm rolled through. Rather ominous. Possibly very windy and such. Got dark and stormy all of a sudden, didn't it? Must be time for writing mystery novels. Got lightning'd out on my umpiring shift yesterday, too.

Also, my home access returns, and thus I can partake once again of the good social interactions that I have on the Internet.

It's all chaos. But there are sometimes where chaos is good for the garden, including the rain, so long as it doesn't flood the fields.

This is a strange thing. In North Carolina, Wiccans are so feared that when a Wiccan group adopts a highway, there is apparently cause for alarm from Christian Folk. Maybe there is something in that spellcasting.

Something that may only be funny to Michigan residents: Jimmy Hoffa cupcakes. As the search continues, the profits roll in. Idly, if you happen to have seen the Nun Bun, there's a reward.

10 things managers should not assume about their geek workforce. A sensible guide to making sure that your geeks are happy and productive.

If you need a break and a drink, or are hosting a party with a lot of people coming, but you don't have enough glasses to go around, consider making shot glasses out of ice. It will keep the beverage cold and provide incentive to drink it quickly. Perfect for your party needs. Or something.

An old spectre being raised again, probably trying to ride the coattails of the "Myspace is only composed of pervs, predators, and underage girls" hysteria: Internet addiction. Now, there are some people who might get truly addicted to the Internet, but I doubt that most people are that - but I want to know how many parents will be rigorously checking their children's behavior to search for signs of "addiction". Of course, it could be the same sorts of people who regularly check their child's room and appearance for drugs, witchery, or non-Christian music artists. There may be addicts, but I doubt there are very many.

Something that makes my librarian-in-training self very happy, and try to figure out what to do with it: Bookman - half bookshelf, half art sculpture. Posing these guys while still leaving enough access to their materials would be a challenge, I suspect.

Right. Now things have just gotten silly. So I'm going to bed. I have the late, late shift tomorrow for library work, and then it's off to home to do the whole getting ready for the concert part. Remember, self - take your suit, your tickets, your phone, and make sure that you've got enough money in your wallet.

Money's always a help! :-P

I love the article on internet addiction. The thing is, while I think most of us will admit to needing our daily "fix" of being online, I don't really see it as a problem. Then again, I don't form the types of pseudo relationships the article mentions, though I do know some people who have. For me, at least, the people I talk to daily are all folks I actually *know*.

On the other hand..you and I were going near batty while the 'net was down at your place....hmm.

Thing is, one might say the same thing about cars, coffee, TV, multi-vitamins, and cheese in the shape of Jane Austin. They are tools, some of which we use everyday and we get used to them. When we can't get something we have on a daily basis it is a bother, but that's just a mark of usefullness. I mean if you can't have your car for a few days, that's a huge inconvienance, particularly in Michigan where public transport is hunted down and killed like vermin. No one claims a national addiction to cars though.

As far as the Wiccan/Pagan group adopting a highway goes....it's all ridiculous reactions of people who aren't informed. Pagans worship the earth so it makes sense that they would want to participate in a highway clean-up. It's why I do things like randomly pick up trash when I'm out, make sure all the trash I create while I'm somewhere leaves with me, etc. I Love the earth.

My only issue with their sign is that they call their group a Wiccan Pagan group because while all Wiccans are considered Pagan, not all Pagan's are considered wiccan. I don't consider myself to be wiccan at ALL, but I do consider myself to be somewhat pagan, magical, and to some degree a witch.

There are some scary cults out there who call themselves Pagan or Wiccan, but as long as the people in the groups are informed and know exactly what they are getting into, why should other people be upset about the group exhisting? Shouldn't they be happy that the stretch of road is being taken care of?

Although, I do also have to say that the adopt-a-highway stuff is ridiculous. you only have to clean it up twice a year and/or when DMV calls you to tell you "hey, the highway your organization sponsors looks bad". At least, that's how it worked in PA and NJ.

Quite honesty, witches are harmless, as i'm sure you know. I mean, there are the creepy scary ones, but they also aren't the ones who are apt to do a highway cleanup.
