silveradeptI have my bed to myself again (no offense to any of my houseguests, but it's small and doesn't hold many people well), and there will be an interim week as she gathers her materials together and then moves out to here. I'll have to get used to having another of the LJ personalities living close. Definitely different.
Even while the folks at DRT stay on hiatus, for whatever reason, the LJ list of Doom! (DOOM!) comes through in the clutch with some interesting things. Some funny, some painful, others insightful or inflammatory, but all good.
First, the good news: Potential HIV and HPV viruses using tomoatoes. I'm reminded of the "here, eat this root" joke right about now. If you can't synthesise one, grow one in your garden. Makes sense, doesn't it?
RFID security on your ammunition? Or some sort of cipher/encryption in some way? Sounds pretty useless, especially after reading the comments that actually display on the pageload. We doubt the dystopian future is the one to come to pass, but with the way things are now, we're not sure.
Then again, as Israel proves, there are very few things that stop a determined government. Yep, laid out the troops and sent in the bulldozers because of one soldier. Get 'im back, no arguments here, but does it really require laying waste to the Gaza strip, or is that just an excuse to do as much destruction as possible? Yeah, bad blood and all, but how much bloodshed is it going to take before someone says, "Okay, fuck this! I've had enough with the killing. Let's work something out and make it stick, dammit!"
Di$ney given smackdown over Pooh rights. Although, technically Di$ney wasn't $uing, but providing $upport to the person that wa$. No ulterior motive$ here, though. Not at all.
With regard to the New York Times and the flap over what it ran: The Times didn't say anything new (well, almost) and the government's treason shouts are unfounded. Still more proof that the Administration considers anything that deviates from its official fantasy to be dangerous. Ideas, people, stereotypes, ideologies, it's all suspect. Which probably makes most of the people in this country suspect, according to those ideas. At least for now, we're not seeing black-hood kidnappings in the middle of the night. Which means they aren't there or they're still secret, whichever you like to believe.
Beyond believable: busted bloke's bulb butt-plug. That's right. Someone wanted to see what it looked like when one shoved one's head up one's arse. Unfortunately, the light fixture wouldn't fit, I guess.
Finally, Images of pure power. I'm not sure why, since I don't know of any connection I have to the lightning or thunder element, but there's beauty and power in pictures of lightning, and I adore them.
I suppose there's a bit in there too about why I like dragons. I don't see them as enemies or monstrosities. Negatively cast, a lot of dragons are creatures of unchecked power. Positively cast, they're creatures of great wisdom, like gods (if not gods) to be revered and consulted with. Both of those seem one-dimensional to me. There's grace along with power and wisdom there, and I think that grace, in many of the tales (both positive and negative) doesn't appear. The dragons are designed to be beautiful in what they do, whether it's flying or tearing apart a farm animal. So why do so many people see the power and fear it, or the wisdom and revere it? Why not see the whole being, powerful, wise, and graceful, and try to be on good terms with it? (Easy to say, of course, not having dragons rampaging in the area, nor flying overhead, nor having to depend on one for survival.) Even while saying that, though, I don't think there are a lot of reincarnated dragon-souls, or people who bond to one, or even people who have a dragon sitting on their shoulder helping them in their magics or astral selves. (Regardless of the reality of those things - perception is still a major component of reality, anyway, and so even if it is just brain chemistry, the perception matters.) Do I have one? I dunno. But I perceive them differently, I guess, than some.
They're a popular thing for people to associate with. Maybe people feel the underlying gracefulness along with the more overt power and wisdom? Or maybe they're fooling themselves into thinking they have those traits. (Am I?) That's part of why I like them. I want to be all the things they embody, graceful, powerful, and wise, and it's very hard to feel any of those things with two left feet, a two meter frame, at least part klutz and part absentminded, and being able to see one's bone structure when looking in the mirror. At least I can learn how to dance, if I really feel like it. Or take up one of the martial dances and learn that. If nothing else, training in telling stories might help me at least laugh at my lacks.

As for dragons..i think that people take what they percieve of dragons and run with it. You know thre are people out there who feel they are dragons, and it's not percieved to be a good/positive thing. at least, they use their dragon for evil, which is bad. You...I see the wisdom for sure. Graceful? Well, we can see it in some things that you do, and we have danced with you and haven't thought you wee bad at it. You only stepped on my feet once if I recall. I don't know what to say as to the powerful part, as the person I know who uses his dragon for evil is using it's power. Though I'm sure if you ever did any spell work, you might be able to tap into the dragon for extra power...speaking of that, we mentioned a while ago trying out some things togther. hmm, now we'll have that opportunity.
