A small smattering.
Sep. 29th, 2006 10:48 amWhen I get back, there will probably be a horde or three, or I'll do my very best to compress and contain the explosions of links that await - so you may get snark and sarcasm in miniature, and bizarre chains. Not that this is necessarily any different from your regular experience, of course.
We start with Bad advertisement placement. Continuing with male-oriented sorts of ideas, too much testosterone kills brain cells. So perhaps "dumb jock" really is a truism and not an insult. Moving across the spectrum, from the familiar 'roid rage of the testosterone-induce world, we have a fight between two girls ending with one slashing the other's throat with a razor blade. "Hell hath no fury..." perhaps? Still, I don't like it when stuff like that happens. It makes me wonder whether the people who thing stdents should be strip-searched on a whim are right, and that schools really are too dangerous for the inmates. If that's true, though, then we need to take a closer look at the schools.
In the "Your Government at Work" department, Trent Lott can't tell a Sunni from a Shi'ite, Most of Iraq wants the United States out now, and the big, important, WTF moment, H.R. 6166 and S. 3930 passed - which means that the President just has to sign to give himself new powers to declare "unlawful combatants" and to hold them outside the court system, deny them their due processes, and torture them, if he so chooses, and that it will be perfectly legal to do so. The American people, it looks like, are being set up for a "unitary executive" in deed as well as in name. And I suspect that the people who should be able to bring court challenges to this law are the ones who will be denied the ability to bring court challanges.
Okay. Last remarks for this morning (and it's taken a while to write this.) Skeptics' Circle 44 is up and running. That's always worth a look.
