More work on the project - in fact, scrapped it in favor of a rewrite on suggestion of my proofers. Don't know if this one flows any better, and it's still not entirely complete. Either way, I've been working at this long enough to recognize the starting signs of burnout. Tomorrow's a feetball game, so that will be good. And soon I'll have other projects to switch to when I get tired of this one. Oh, and I also did my weekly assignment for Gov. Docs. It was a refreshing change of pace. Maybe tomorrow, once I pout it all down, I won't touch it until Sunday, just for a rest. Knowing me, though, I'll pick it up again if I have the opportunity. Someone remind me to play Okami on Sunday, along with the field hockey, okay? Tell me to take a break, because I've earned it.

More Literati tonight. Were it not for a boneheaded move, I might have actually beaten [livejournal.com profile] 2dlife at one of our games, but alas, he scored 75 because I didn't notice and I was in the dust. My confidence suffers from playing that game, I assure you - mostly because I play something that's good and then he plays something even better. He also won the three-player game we played with [livejournal.com profile] annaonthemoon, but I at least stayed close to him while AOTM was giving him easy shots at the triple word score. And thus, again, it approaches 3am. I must be lonely or something.

Under the link file for tonight: Bad science, or at least, bad analysis of science, is amusing. It tells us that those who are good with numbers are bad with people. Perhaps they all need to take the Univresity of Toronto's new course on sexuality. Then, at least, they'll have a good understanding of sex in context or the things that tend to intrude on sex. And also a healthy understanding of the great diversity of sexuality that's there. As well as being able to laugh at the dirty Harry Potter jokes.

Science has created a cloaking field! But it only works on microwave frequencies, and it's not really a true cloak. Still, pretty cool. In other science news, a new strain of bacteria that has no photosynthesis elements has been found. Deep in a cave, these bacteria harness natural radioactivity to make their energy. That's right, nuclear bacteria.

[livejournal.com profile] idan_cohen, you once accused everyone in this country of being too complacent when it comes to telling the people in charge where to shove it on issues like illegal wars. You're not alone in that idea. A blog called Whiskey Bar puts your and my objections together in Down the River - that we were too afraid to stop it before it started, and now we're all responsible for it. Which every U.S. citizen is, to greater or lesser degrees. Although some have publicly stated their own drafts of impeachment papers to be served immediately, in the style of the declaration of independence.

Second Life now has a Reuters station. Rather interesting to see the virtual world receiving feeds and things from the real one. Perhaps in WoW it's tougher, but I wonder if the founders of SL intended for the real world to intrude on it as much as it has.

Mrrg. I wish I had more happy things to talk about, but my life is fairly regular - get up, do work, go to class (on some occasions), return, do more work, go to bed. That's graduate schooling for you. I'm ready to be done. I really am. And I only have two semesters (maybe 1.5) to go, assuming I pass all the classes. It's a routine. And while I function better in routine, routine can be boring sometimes. Ah, well. Were I still in undergraduate and marching band, it might feel easier and better, but that's mostly because there's 90 mintues of social contact and such every day and more on Saturdays. I should get out more, really. It's too bad most of my homework ties me down to a computer. (As does much of my interaction with people, in this net-guided universe.)

Although one benefit of looking for my canister of quarters (I had no idea the arcade would be on free play, and so I came prepared) was that I cleaned and rearranged my desk, so that's good. Anyway, since it's still too early (I really need to break this habit, but the lure of work and Literati...), bedtime.

Lots of bacteria exist without photosythetic capability... In fact only cyanobacteria (a relatively small class) has that capability. However, all of them rely on external chemical energy sources that derive energy from the sun (well, or geothermal energy).
