Everything's all in order now, so it's mostly a matter of time and waiting. I'm trying to find things so that I can keep myself occupied over my wait-time, and I think I'm going to succeed pretty easily. Although I still haven't found a pub or place out here that I can get up tomorrow early-like and watch the football game. But that would mean finding somewhere out in the middle of Washington that would carry the Big Ten network. Pffftahahahahahahaha.

Newt suggests "Nine Nineties in Nine", a series of 90-minute debates between the candidates for President in the nine weeks leading up to the 2008 election. And not debates as we know them, with drinking games attached, but actual conversations, off-script. Naturally, almost nobody has signed onto the idea. Perhaps they'd rather believe Ted Nugent's denunciations of Senators Obama and Clinton that involved the usual American opinion-expression involving violence.

More from [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks on Senator Craig - the furor over this is that he acts like a person who is hiding something, something that could explode in a very messy scandal-like manner during an election year. Even if he's clean, that he looks suspicious is enough for people to try and call for his resignation.

On a different but related note, Iowa rules that same-sex couples can marry. Tick off another state, and watch as the dominoes slowly start their descent.

Anyway, I've run out of time again, so I think I'll be posting and signing off, then.

Paranoid movie executives think you're using your cell phone to pirate movies. The quality is crap, mind you, but a copyright violation is a copyright violation, so soon we may have not just "turn off cell phones" but "no cell phones permitted".

Things for all writers to keep in mind, especially fandom writers. Now in handy haiku format.

Are we failing our geniuses?, Time asks. I don't think they've been around what happens with gifted children if they have to ask the question. Of course we are. After all, we suspend ingenious students when they pull off something that requires ingenuity and a little bit of social engineering.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I don't get to see the PSU game OR the UM game, either.

My dear, you are nowhere NEAR the middle of Washington. For that, you've got to come back over The Pass. Wanna meet me for lunch in Moses Lake?

Snoqualmie, which Native Washingtonians seem to think is some sort of harrowing mountain road. It's the pass over the Cascades on I-90.

Ah, okay. So is it relatively steep or something like that? I just planned SA's route, I have no clue what I actually sent him through! :D

If it were steep or harrowing, like Homestake Pass (just west of Butte, MT), I'd have said, "Snoqualmie is a pretty rough pass." As a Colorado native, I've seen worse roads on the plains than Snoqualmie.

hah. if Homestake Pass is along I-90, SA went through that too.

Homestake isn't really harrowing, it's just steep. I've driven over it many times in a fully-laden Honda. It's really embarassing when the semis you've been passing all day now take their turn passing you. All of them.

Moses lake is half way (-ish) (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=tacoma,+wa&daddr=moses+lake,+wa&sll=47.327654,-120.217896&sspn=1.623366,3.691406&ie=UTF8&ll=47.227029,-120.860596&spn=1.626455,3.691406&z=8&om=1) between you and Spokane.

I didn't even realize it was coming up on College Football. Only by dumb luck & searching that I found out I could get Big Ten Network. However, the fact of the game with U of M vs. Appalacian State comes on @ Noon and I'm not up then, I'll at least have to make sure it's taped. Thanks for at least letting me know so I could check.

A few updates and comments:

1) Iowa married one couple and registered to marry 30-something more before a higher judge issued a stay. It's no longer being performed.

2) Drive around enough and some bar will have it. The one right outside my door was Michigan central, the one two blocks away was swarming with USC fans later in the evening.

3) Failing geniuses is nothing new and hardly surprising. There's actually a lot of distrust/resentment in America of "smarts". In return, smart people have difficulty seeing situations from a "regular Joe" point of view which leads to a wide social gap.

There's also probably an Alumni group out there that will have game parties - I was in touch with a group of PSU alums that were in Ann Arbor, I just wasn't around during football season to go to any of their gatherings.
