I got moved in yesterday. They're going to replace/superclean the carpet in the bedroom on Monday, because things were apparently pretty trashed on the carpet, and the previous tenants were smokers. Luckily, all the material that I have and have bought so far fits in the living room. I've got space now, which is a rather weird feeling. I need a paycheck or two before I start considering some furniture options, though. And I moved in with sufficient time to provide crash space for [livejournal.com profile] torakiyoshi, who had a meeting on this side of the state this morning. Tonight, after work, I've got all sorts of things to go get, like foods and shower curtains and such, and some things to think about getting - and I'll poke the cable company today and see if they can't get someone out to set up my services (or if I can just read some numbers to them over the telephone) on my time. Wheee, I'm moved in! I'm moved in! Finally, I'm moved in! Moved in, employed, and ready to begin the post-school part of my life. Hoorah.

Of course, I'm still going to have to get used to the idea that if my padded rugby squad plays at noon in the college town, that mens I have to catch the broadcast at 9 A.M. In some ways, it's nice being able to watch late-night sport early, and in others, it becomes a bit of a problem, because everything that was late-night sport then gives way into late-night programming. Well, perhaps with other entertainment methods, that won't be such a problem. Bookshelves and end-tables set up and purposed, mattress laid down, stuff shunted in one direction or another. It's not quite sleeping in my own bedroom, but hey, it's close, and it works.

Yes, now you can start filling my in-box with requests on my new address.

Or you can do something else with your life and peruse laying the blame for the popularity of dancing poles and the behavior that happens on them at feminism's feet, the worry about men not reading fiction (So? They're just picking up words from other sources than paragraphs-of-words books, that's all. You tell me that an RPG player doesn't do a lot of reading over the course of the game.

And, for spice, just how much the Jena incident shows, to one person, that racism is still alive, well, and being passed on to a new generation.

YAY! :D

address please ;)

I checked, and your game isn't on til 3pm today EST, but I suppose you'll be at work anyway so it doesn't quite matter.

Shower curtains are good things :) Make sure you find a nifty one ;)

So, does the apartment smell like smokers lived there, or it's just that the carpets are ugly?

ewww. that's really gross. Although, replacing the carpet might take care of the smell issue. Did they re-paint the walls too? you could always ask them to paint because the smell is horrible.

Get oust spray, and febreeze. Febreeze now makes candles, and I'd get those too. You can febreeze the carpets that aren't getting replaced, and use the oust in the air. I'd also just leave all the windows open and if it gerts chilly at night - wear a sweatshirt or something. you shouldn't have to live with a cigarette smelling house, especially since the smell will get on anything you bring into the house, and you might even start smelling like you smoke. The plug-ins also seem to do a pretty good job, but those only cover the smell.

Mom says to wash the curtains with vinegar added to the wash cycle - or get the detergent that has febreeze in it, or the arm & hammer

Did they replace the carpet in the living room, too?

I'm not sure you need to worry much about catching the Michigan games this year, I'm afraid. I just watched the whole Oregon game, and it was sad. And on top of it, they lost the one person on the offense who wasn't sucking to an injury.

I hear there's a deadpool for Carr's career now.

The funny/sad thing was that Michigan was almost universally picked to make it into a BCS bowl game before the season started.

Yeah. Now it's Wisconsin all the way, baby! What might end up being hilarious, though, is Michigan's conference play. The thing is, both App. State and Oregon run the same sort of Spread offense, which Michigan evidently sucks at covering. I think in the Big Ten, only Minnesota does so.

There's a lot of raw talent on the Michigan squad, and I think Carr's main fault is that he's not keeping with the times. The defensive layout of Michigan might mean that they could make an excellent showing in the Big Ten even after all this dumb, which would more or less drag the entire conference down in the polls. So Michigan blowing up just might take some other Big Ten teams with it.

Of course, it's really too early in the season to say such a thing for sure, but it's possible.

Wisconsin?

I dunno, ESPN's sportscasters seem to think that we have a good chance of being #1 this season.

Although, I also think it's too soon to tell - we haven't even had a big 10 game yet.

Oooops, I forgot, Stanford played UCLA last week (still not used to this new Pac-10 schedule where we play every team, no Pac10 conference games this week or next week, though as before.)

The good news for Michigan is that they've got ND next week and ND can't seem to score an offensive TD to save its life.

The ACC has had a few conference games (most notably Clemson defeating Florida State) and the SEC has had a couple today as well (most notably South Carolina defeating Georgia).

I watched that game as well. Only I had to stop in the 3rd quarter. It was just too much. As for ol' Lloyd-y, I think his ass is hit for the end of the year.

Or people will consider this the Curse of Bo. Doesn't help that since Bo died they lost to Ohio State the next day, then the Rose Bowl & now to two non-conference schools, one not even in the same division.

There's some bad juju in A-squared this day. At least Silver's nowhere near this boondoggle of a clusterfuck.

I don't know if you watched his press conference after... Lloyd even seemed to think that his backside was about to be sent through a window. (Unless you have another interpretation of "I will not be stopped... even if I lose my job")

I'm sorry, but I don't see where they should be considering firing Lloyd. So they screwed up? who cares. Take a look at Penn State - we've had several years in a ROW where we barely won any games, and while speculation over JoePa retiring was always said, no one actually really pushed for it, and even Joe himself said he wasn't going to retire over something like loosing a season.

To me, that's a sign of bad morale. U-M has too many fair weather fans who refuse to continue to support a "losing" team, and that's what they should be doing.

Coach Carr has a pretty good record but he's giving off the impression that he's asleep at the wheel. He needs to get his shit together and work on his Defense so that they're not giving up 30+ points to other teams, no matter who good they are in their division or conference. Will he be let go before the end of the year? Doubt it. However, there will be a mob calling for his head by Christmas if they don't have at least a winning season (meaning better than .500 average.) As for the fans situation - I wouldn't call them fair-weather. Fair weather would describe the fanbase running away from the team in droves and no longer rooting for U of M football. I see quite the opposite. They love it so much they want to get things fixed now before they become even more of a mess farther down the road. They have expectations. High ones since Michigan is the winning-est team in the history of the NCAA (around 75% win rate) and they're not used to having 4 losses in a row. Hell, the last time they had four lost games in a row was back in the 60's.

That book reading link is depressing. I retreat to the comfort of my overused half-dot account, which I confessed to my mother on the phone today, I need to put on a moratorium before it drives me broke!

Thanks again for the crash space. I definately enjoyed the visit, and being short on sleep was worth it. (I made up for it with a nap at the Indian John Hill rest stop just this side of the moutains-- was having trouble staying awake as I crossed back over.)

Have the best

For the football games, you might want to either get a tivo or persuade your computer to do tivo like things for you.

And yeah, e-mail me your address so we can send things and stuff

Also, do you want the paid time for winning the contest? Or should I arrange a different prize? Paid LJ time has become something of a controversy since when I thought of it as a prize.
