Today had a good start. Slept in a bit, so I didn’t get up and watch the women’s football squad defeat England three-nil, but watching the game would have meant getting up at 5am. I could have skipped the first half, from the tally sheet, but that still would have meant getting up around my usual time, and I decided sleeping in was a better idea. From there, the cable box got replaced (a full hour before I was scheduled to wait for the appointment), and then there was padded rugby, for which the Penn State fan on the list was mercilessly mocked.

It’s the Fall Equinox today/yesterday, and the yearly cycle starts slowing down for a bit to get ready for the cold and rain and snow, buried down in the ground, dropping seeds and burrowing, getting ready to wait out the winter.

The other parts for today’s broadcast are ready for delivery, so let’s begin. Newsweek’s website interviews a man who tried to live by all the commandments expressed in the bible for a year. He found it very difficult, and some of the commandments that he was supposed to obey, he found incompatible with today’s morals. There were some creative ways of getting some of them to work, though - since stoning never specified size. Elsewhere, a Christian theater group spent $90,000 for an advertisement rebutting Kathy Griffin's remarks. That money could have been better spent elsewhere. Perhaps in doing some of those commandments that say you should take care of your fellows. In a similar vein of rebuttal, although probably cheaper, Media Matters reports that before "General Betray-Us", Rush Limbaugh used "Senator Betray-us" on his show, among other attacks on the patriotism of his opposition.

Who’s finding new material and communications from al-Qaeda? Not the intelligence community, but a mother from South Carolina who can translate Arabic fluently. She then sends her stuff on to intelligence communities. She’s self-employed, apparently, which might explain how she can find these things effectively.

The Pirate Bay fires a broadside against certain arms of recording companies, alleging that the companies have paid for people to engage in DDoS and other attacks against their servers. This apparently comes after e-mail communications were leaked to another organization confirming suspicions that labels were hiring people to put pressure and attempt to destroy BitTorrent trackers belonging to The Pirate Bay.

Carnegie Mellon is developing a new lunar rover, in part because there’s a prize to be had for landing a private craft on the moon, but also because the Moon’s closer than Mars and has a good set of challenges by itself to conquer. Yeah, there may not be water or such that we can see or use, but it’s still useful as a training ground. Part of the reason we many not be interested in going back to the moon this is because we're looking at science-fiction futuretech as what would be interesting, and not noticing the very real futuretech that's been brought into our lives. No flying cars, moving sidewalks, and lunar vacation resorts, sure, but we have cable, the World Wide Web, and the Segway. So we’re hitting the inventions, we’re just not noticing or mass-adopting them. Or not that many of them - Tasers seem to be back into notice again, with video of a handcuffed and compliant woman being given the shock anyway. Repeatedly, apparently, and in such a way that the person involved had to be hospitalized. The officer is on administrative leave.

Another example of why proofreading of headlines is still a good thing - Mandela still alive after embarrassing Bush remark has certain implications that Mr. Bush can kill with his words. Which, I suppose, has some truth, since he’s said “Fight a war in Iraq.” And then there was the further remarks by the Director of National Intelligence in the United States saying that the 11 September attacks could and should have been prevented. Which could have changed the course of our history significantly. Dwelling on that, however, is something that Douglas Rushkoff finds irritating, noting that continuing to be interested in 11 September conspiracy theories is doing disinformation work and keeping the people from focusing on the things that they should be interested in, like the current administration's criminal policies. Others want the populace to get themselves better-informed before they start making political commentary - something I should do, too. And if one were of a mind to panic about some Middle Eastern takeover, I think one would be more interested in moves to potentially by large interests in companies on index funds. (It is WorldNetDaily, so salt as needed) Some are worried about Iranian President Mohammed Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia University, considering it some sort of disgrace to the university and the country because of Iran’s record. At the same time, though, according to the reasoning put forward of having people see and document what happens and what is said, then having the president of Iran talking at a university would be an excellent way of getting that documentation.

Despite his apparent visibillity right now, Ron Paul suffers from a similar delusion as many others - namely that the Constitution is replete with references to God and that the Founders would approve of a religiously-motivated government. What makes his error particularly stupid is, as No God Zone points out, he has a copy of the text of the Constitution on his website, so someone can search and see that his claim is false.

Last out of politics, as a follow-up to the MRFF suits, apparently an army specialist who is an atheist has been threatened with being hit by intentional friendly fire for his suit. Among other threats of violence and assumptions that he is a homosexual because of his atheism. And as a follow-up to Blackwater’s license dismissal, the company is being investigated for possibly having smuggled arms to the country that end up in the hands of the opposition.

Think about this: Nintendo has made a gaming system (the Wii) that is both fun and easy enough for 80 and older people to use. Thus, that system is the most dominant one for this generation, it looks like. And those things are a lot of fun, indeed.

Last for today is how to make the four and twenty blackbirds pie. If that’s not charming enough for your guests, maybe you should pick up how to undress a person with your teeth. Or not. That last one might be an optical illusion. Here's a list of twenty different types of optical illusions - maybe it’s on there. What’s real, and thus the heartwarming closer for tonight, is that San Diego's mayor will sign a resolution granting same-sex marriages in his city. That’s a Republican signing that resolution, by the way. As always, not everyone in a party is inherently evil. If we could trim out the ones who have a large evil quotient, though, we might do better for ourselves.

Anyway, it feels like bed may be an option to be exercised soon. Have to go out shopping and planning again tomorrow.

What is going on with the police that they think it's okay to do something like that? I understand the tazer is supposed to be used to subdue someone, but sheesh, she's rolling around on the ground, clearly in loads of pain and in no way looking like she's a threat to him or others. And a paid leave? Sure, let's continue to give him money for doing that. Sheesh.

Hmm. Living for a year as the bible tells you to in the modern world. Pretty interesting, and I might want to give his book a read.

Speaking of old people and video games, did you ever check out Old Grandma Hardcore (http://oghc.blogspot.com/) that I linked you to while you were without connectivity?

Heh. I remember our long conversation about the live birds in a pie thing that was shown on the Tudors. And now we know.

Undressing with teeth, eh? Personally, I think this one (http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-undo-her-bra-with-one-hand) could actually be useful...No, wait, I found one that definitely is useful: How to avoid trapped arm whilst cuddling in bed (http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-avoid-trapped-arm-whilst-cuddling-in-bed)!

But shouldn't he be suspended instead of given paid leave? It just seems that the paid leave is just a slap on the wrist.
