The Curse of the Sweater-Vest continues. Drops the alma mater to third in their conference standings, gives them another four-loss season, and makes me wonder where they go for a bowl game. If the traditional pairings are preserved, then it looks to be the Outback Bowl (yay, Florida?) with the losses bookending the season. But that's up to the people making selections, now. Lloyd's done better in Florida - the one time I went there, we won.

I had my brother record it for me so I could see it later.

I'm still sort of at a loss for words.

What's the curse of the Sweater Vests? I think the outback bowl traditionally takes the #3 or #4 Big Ten team. I think. At least, the years we've gone, we've also been ranked #4 in the Big Ten.

So far, we're not doing too well in our game, either. If we can kick MSU, we might actually have a shot at a new years' day bowl. If we don't, then it looks like we'll get saddled with a non New Year's Day bowl.

Okay. according to CSTV (http://www.cstv.com/teams/m-footbl/big10/conf-standings-big10.html), here's the current rankings in the big 10:

Ohio State 6 1 .857 10 1 .909
Michigan 6 1 .857 8 3 .727
Illinois 5 2 .714 8 3 .727
Penn St 4 3 .571 8 3 .727
Wisconsin 4 3 .571 8 3 .727
Iowa 4 4 .500 6 5 .545
Purdue 3 4 .429 7 4 .636
Northwestern 3 4 .429 6 5 .545
Indiana 2 5 .286 6 5 .545
Michigan St 2 5 .286 6 5 .545
Minnesota 0 7 .000 1 10 .091

When I click on Illinois - it already shows their win from today as being factored into their stats, same as for UM. I'm sort of confused, because our game isn't over yet (it's half time) so I guess things are still up in the air? Although, even if we win, I don't see us being able to jump ahead of either Illinois or UM (whichever lands in #3), so I think we'll either stay at #4 or drop down to #5 if we lose.

But really, I'm just confused as to how the individual pages are updated with wins/losses, and the win/losses are correct in the ranking list when not all the games for today have been played out.

*edit 2* Okay, so I checked Ohio, and it looks like they have won Seven Big-10 games, but the front page only says 6. So I guess UM could still fall when they recalculate things since Illinois won their game? So..would it be safe to predict the top 4 to be Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Penn State? So...Michigan will get Orange and we'll get Sugar?

*edit #3* Unless we lose, and then we're out for a new year bowl game...and we'll probably get the Alamo after all.

But I thought #3 in Big 10 gets Orange? and #4 Outback...because we were outback last year and #4, but we should have waited because if we were #3 we'd have gotten the Orange bowl (except we had played Orange the year before and there's some kind of nono about appearing two years in a row in the same game), and we got moved to #3 after Ohio went to the BCS game. I think. Or we technically got moved to #2 last year...I forget now. I IMed you an article, but here's the link: http://www.bigtennetwork.com/news/article.asp?list_id=1&story_id=8752

I'm sooo confused by the whole damn ranking/determining thing.

Remembering that these are all suggestions. Bowl games are essentially invitations, if a team is expected to generate more income playing in a certain bowl than another, it may leapfrog other teams.

Look on the bright side: It isn't the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Think of the two teams subjected to that indignity.

Do you think Lloyd Carr will resign? He has a big press conference scheduled for Monday, I hear.

He may go and I'm a bit on the fence about that. He's got a fantasic record with his 13 years @ A-Squared but I think, especially this year, he's been shown to be a bit behind the times. He's not readily adapting to his enemies. He stays the old tried & true, knowing it'll get him at least to in the top 3 of the Big Ten, but yet he's getting his ass handed to him when dealing with teams like Oregon who are more speed & agility as opposed to pure powerhouse strength.

If he does decide to leave, I can only hope that the next coach would be willing to try out new things to deal with the now changing tactics of NCAA Football. I blame all this on Vince Young & Dennis Dixon. One or two QB's do real good on their feet & everyone tries to do it...except for Coach Carr, of course.
